I think Hickman is sort-of a genius. His invention is off-the-wall. But I don't think he's good at editing himself for pace, as he's a tendency to ramble sometimes, which gets boring. Some of his plotting is occasionally weak, too. (But, hey. We're all human.)

"Quintet" has the plot, characters, and visual cheapness of a Davidson-era "Doctor Who". The story originated out of a dream (!) Paul Newman had. Yes, really. He wanted to have a novel, board game (!), and movie released simultaneously as an "event". The result was a damp squib. #filmsky

Watched "Quintet", Robert Altman's forgotten sci-fi turkey. The feel of a "Slipstream", but nowhere as interesting. Future Ice Age Paul Newman investigates his brother's murder, with a dull "revelation". Maybe Altman's worst movie, for me the worst film of '79. #filmsky

I pretty much have an embargo on most X-Men comics now outside of a couple of Wolverine titles, because I'm bored of the pompous navel-gazing yakking. Is the X-Men one worth my time? I read the other two, which were...interesting? The FF one was a different spin. The Spidey marginally disturbing.

I can't remember what I watched the other day, but I instantly framegrabbed the opening Republic Pictures logo. I mean...look at that. Isn't it glorious? I'd be very happy to have that magnificent birdie and font at the head of my movie.

Jaws, Deep Blue Sea, The Shallows are all great fun. Thrash and The Meg are fairly dumb, but not unentertaining. Kon Tiki is sharks for grown-ups. Orca isn't a shark, but is a pretty good time. The rest of them...well, you have my sympathies.

I used to have two baths a day (during my "I was very rich in the '90s" era, when I'd soak for hours and read endless paperbacks. I SO look forward to carving out the time for a bath now. And, yes. I have sometimes done the Lush Bath Bomb...

Assuming it's the Westbury White Horse, in 1957 it concreted over and painted white by Westbury District Council in an attempt to save long-term maintenance costs as the chalk was eroding and unstable due to the steepness of the slope. I only found this out after visiting and seeing the concrete!

When I was a kid in 1975, Puffin published "UFOs And Other Worlds". One story was the Kelly Hopkinsville Incident "Night Skies" is inspired by. I was riveted. I was gutted when I heard "Skies" was cancelled. I was given the script in the 90s: I was always worried I was accidentally the leak source.
