June 3, 2026:

I had some serious-looking notifications on my Ko-fi account last night.
I was asked to verify my payment information in order to keep my account in good standing. I’ve been with Ko-fi as a creator for over two years, so I trusted them.

They promised that no money would be taken out of my account in order to complete this process. They promised it was encrypted and safe. I didn’t click on any external links. I followed instructions for verification within the Ko-fi support chat on their official website, and had over $300 taken from my card without consent this morning in a matter of minutes.

This was done through asking me to authorize a test charge, then withdrawing over $300 in two separate transactions (they said my verification code kept failing). Shockingly, then they followed up by claiming my money was on hold due to “suspicious activity” and to fix it, I need to replenish my balance to at least $300 and they’ll return my funds.
I knew that was completely wrong and realized I may have just been tricked. I begged for a response and explanation, but none were given by support.

Either the Ko-fi team were hacked, which means they’re not safe at the moment, or they actually did this to one of their creators intentionally, which means they’re going against everything they claim to stand for.
I had finally started to suport myself through my art, and this is a bit of a blow, I have to say. I’ve reported with my bank and they advised me to file a police report, since this is definitely fraudulent activity.

Since this is my main source of income, I had to make a statement: I’m taking the day to figure out my next steps. Please pause all Ko-fi donations, and message if you want to buy something from my shop.
