With all due respect, the NBA narrative that a team can’t carry 2 max contracts is braindead. Knicks are the shining roster-building example right now. They paid their starters $172M last season, on a $154.6M salary cap. 2 *supermax* players would’ve cost $108M.

Not a big fan of taking the ball out of Ant’s hands and resigning to a more frantic style of play. Charlotte just so happened to have the perfect team for LaMelo: young guys who can run all game and don’t mind focusing on finishing plays (as opposed to initiating them).

I don’t see the Celtics trading JB unless it’s star for star, even if JB is disgruntled. You don’t try to raise your ceiling in the short term like a Giannis trade and then pivot to a smorgasbord return for a top 10 player. I think JB will have to deal w/ bad feelings until another star is available

A classic rebuild package for Milwaukee— young players and picks. Can’t be mad at that. Really dislike the Giannis-Bam fit, but time will tell. Still 2 great players. As a Celtics fan, I’ll be bummed if we burned too many bridges with Jaylen Brown. Not another ceiling-raiser on the trade market.

Post-NBA Finals, ignoring the rumors, this is the Giannis trade that makes the most sense to me. Wolves’ current roster has hit a wall. A frontcourt of Giannis and Naz Reid fit well together (on paper). Hornets help their young core take the next step. Bucks get a classic rebuild package.

Wemby in the Finals. Thunder not rewarded for playing dishonorable hoops. Pretty good. OKC can blame injuries, but a grifting play style *shouldn’t* serve you well in a Game 7. Even if Wemby’s and Castle’s inexperience showed, the right team won.

Pretty strong lottery reform. Maybe leans too heavily towards disincentivizing tanking as opposed to allowing for natural rebuilding, but a big step in the right direction. Instead of an automatic bottom 3 team penalty, I’d prefer a lotto penalty based on failing to meet a wins threshold (27?).

Expansion will pacify owners & drum up some temporary intrigue for the league, but it doesn’t fix the underlying problem: the NBA has no idea how to promote the modern game. I don’t know if I should be impressed that the NFL has maintained cultural ubiquity, or disappointed that the NBA has lost it.

Interesting. Both players are talented, but Johnson struggles to stay healthy, and Sweat struggles to stay on the field (only 51% of defensive snaps last season). Could be consequential, could be a nothing burger since both guys lack availability.
