I've never read any of the Smiley books but I've seen both versions of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, love the story. About to read The Gone Away World by Harkaway, his SF is supposed to be top notch. ATOP @theorphicpriest.bsky.social · 05/06/2025It was my first encounter with extreme poverty. I didn't understand. I grew up in a middle class family. It bothered me tremendously. I wanted to know why we could have all the food and water we needed and they couldn't. I still don't get it. 020

There were a surprising amount of dick jokes. They all felt very necessary. While reading, you are wondering, how does he pee? And does he have junk? Herbert knew. 020

I needed to know what was on the other side of everything. No one could give an answer. Contemporary science unveiling more and more explanations is most welcoming. 010

He walks towards me and I'm staring, it was surreal. I asked him, "Hot enough for ya?" "Better than bein cold," he responded. He loves the hellscape he helped create. 110

Got in a bad argument bc of hunger. It was not good. I just felt like if we had interrupted his talking, we would upset him and become his next playthings. 000
