Angraecum aporoides is an orchid species that grows on trees in nature. It has flowered one to two times a year in my setup, maybe more. The small flowers have a noticeable scent, possibly jasmine-like or something close to it, impressive for their size.

Acianthera ochreata is an orchid species that grows on rocks in nature. Acquired in 2022, it flowered that same year for the first time, then grew slowly in the years after. A recent change in my light setup is now in 2026 providing higher light levels and seems to have triggered a response.

Paphiopedilum spicerianum is an orchid species that grows in soil and on rocks in nature. It bloomed for the first time in 2024 and the plant has developed nicely, now blooming again in 2026 with another sheath developing that may soon produce an additional spike.

Cynorkis purpurascens is an orchid species that grows on shady rocks and occasionally on mossy tree trunks in nature, and came to me labeled as Cynorkis purpurea, which is actually a separate accepted species.

Phalaenopsis pulcherrima f. alba, also known as f. champornensis, is an orchid species that grows on rocks and in sandy soil in nature. The flowers and plants of this species are quite variable in color and form.

Habenaria (Hab.) Regnieri is a primary hybrid orchid, a cross between Hab. carnea and Hab. rhodocheila, registered in 1910. The clone I grow is 'Rubenesque', awarded AM/AOS (82 points) and CCM/AOS (88 points), the latter reflecting how it can develop into an impressive specimen with multiple growths

Prescottia aff. stachyodes is an orchid species that grows in nature in soil with leaf litter and rock crevices. It was acquired at the National Capital Orchid Society Show from an Ecuadorean nursery. It has done well first in calcined clay and later in a medium bark mix after a media change.

Phragmipedium (Phrag.) Mont Fallu is a hybrid orchid, a cross between Phrag. longifolium and Phrag. Leslie Garay, registered in 1992, and is grown just like my other Phragmipedium and their hybrids in my setup.

Phalaenopsis cornu-cervi is an orchid species that grows on trees in nature. The forma (f.) chattaladae stands out for its solid deep red to mahogany colored flowers, distinct from the typical yellow-green barred flowers of the typical forma and the yellow flowers of f. flava.

Prosthechea cochleata is an orchid species that can grow on trees, leaf litter, decaying wood, and even rocks, and is one of the first I bought when I got back into orchids. It also holds a special memory; my grandmother had one growing in a coconut husk under a grapefruit tree in Puerto Rico.

Paphiopedilum concolor is an orchid species that grows on rocks and in soil pockets, now flowering for the third year with me. I recently switched it from calcined clay to a bark mix, though it had grown well in calcined clay too.

Phragmipedium × richteri is a natural hybrid orchid between Phrag. boissierianum and Phrag. pearcei that grows in soil and is one of the easiest growers in my collection. It does not seem to be particularly demanding and is flowering for the third time.

Eltroplectris calcarata is an orchid species that grows in soil with leaf litter and can do well in medium light, but requires lower light to develop the flower spike properly. It may go through a period of dormancy during which it can be kept lightly moist but never fully dry.

Tolumnia guttata is an orchid species that grows on trees. I have had this plant for 3 to 4 years, and both the plant and blooms have improved each year in size and quantity.

Specklinia picta is an orchid species that grows on trees and originally came to me labeled as Pleurothallis boliviana, which turned out to be a misidentification. It can flower 2 to 3 times a year with one major bloom cycle among those, and it is one of the easier Pleurothallids to grow in my setup

Paphiopedilum tigrinum is an orchid species that grows in rocks and leaf litter and responded well to my standard Paph care from day one. I got it as a single mature fan at the local orchid show (SEPOS) last year; it established, flowered, and has already pushed a new fan.

Restrepia elegans is an orchid species that grows on trees and is cared for just like Rstp. cymbula in my setup. This plant came to me labeled as Rstp. lansbergii, which is actually a separate accepted species, so the identification was corrected along the way.

Specklinia endotrachys s.l. is an orchid species that grows on trees and belongs to a complex that includes S. pfavii, S. spectabilis, S. remotiflora, and S. dunstervillei. It flowers sequentially and is cared for similar to most Pleurothallids in my collection.

Podochilus lucescens is an orchid species that grows on trees and may have the smallest flowers in my collection. The tiny white flowers closely resemble blueberry blossoms and are produced sequentially on the top of mature stems.

Paphiopedilum callosum var. callosum is an orchid species that grows in soil or on rocks and is closely related to Paph. barbatum; callosum var. callosum tends to have a taller spike and more downturned petals, while barbatum is smaller with more horizontal petals.

Paphiopedilum glaucophyllum is an orchid species that grows in soil with leaf litter and produces flowers successively on a single spike. This is my first flowering of the species from a flask I bought 3 to 4 years ago, grown as part of a community pot; possibly my first flask flowering ever.

Spathoglottis hardingiana is an orchid species that grows on rocks and does not tolerate overly wet conditions in my setup. After losing both a new growth and a spike to rot, the plant pushed a new shoot from a node on top of the pseudobulb and came back flowering strong once grown drier.

Paphiopedilum leucochilum is one of the easiest Paphs in my collection and can flower up to twice a year in my setup. The flowers are beautifully colored, waxy looking, and carry a unique scent you can only detect by putting your nose right into the flower.

Masdevallia virens is a small epiphytic orchid that produces waxy, colorful flowers sequentially on spikes that stay alive for years. The flowers carry a strong gardenia fragrance and the plant is free flowering and easy to grow as long as you avoid letting it dry out too much between waterings.

C. Pasiche @theorchidjourney.bsky.social · 07/04/2026
Restrepia cymbula is a miniature epiphytic orchid grown just like R. muscifera, so if you can grow one, you can grow the other. The flowers are small but eye-catching, with a lovely combination of colors and spots that make this one stand out even with such small flowers.

Restrepia muscifera is a miniature epiphytic orchid with small, oddly shaped flowers that look like an insect. Flowers emerge successively from the base of the leaf. The plant can be grown potted or mounted — I have grown mine potted. #orchidspecies #orchid #orquidea #Restrepiamuscifera

First flowering: Cymbidium dayanum var. angustifolium is an orchid that bloomed last season and marks my first time flowering a Cymbidium. Growing this orchid taught me a lot about light and seasonal timing, and it was exciting to finally see it bloom.

Back and updated: I miss seeing this orchid, Maxillaria elatior, in bloom. It is a wonderful species with attractive, citrus-scented flowers. I have not seen it flower in my collection since late 2022, before I increased light levels and repotted the plant to support blooming.

Polystachya neobenthamia is one of the few orchids I grew outside for the first time this year during the warmer months, and while some species struggled, this one thrived in full sun with no signs of stress, which aligns with its natural habitat.

First flowering: Paphiopedilum hangianum is an exceptionally slow-growing orchid species. Even so, this mature plant, acquired two years ago, produced a bloom that justified every bit of patience. The large, beautifully colored flower develops in a relatively short time.

Collaboration: This collaboration with Caleb Arias (@calebarias26) highlights Anguloa × ruckeri, a natural hybrid within the genus Anguloa. In the wild, it grows on leaf-littered soil in lightly to partially shaded mountain forests of Colombia and Venezuela, typically between 900 and 2,000 meters.
