Neville Brand was originally cast as Caswell in Twilight Zone's "Execution." When he became sick the day filming was to begin, Albert Salmi took his place. Salmi returned in "A Quality of Mercy" and "Of Late I Think of Cliffordville." Brand later starred in "The Encounter."

Twilight Zone's "The Last Flight" was simply titled "Flight" while in production. As writer Richard Matheson later commented, "I liked 'Flight.' It was his flight from his cowardice, and a flight from the past to the future, and so on. 'The Last Flight' sort of narrows it down."
