Is vertical farming agriculture, a tech platform, ingredients, or foodservice? Every company that died tried to be the whole list. They raised money like tech, priced like a farm, sold like a brand. The survivors picked one line and meant it. #VerticalFarming #CEA

Canada feeds the world. We just don't process much of it. Building that capacity isn't a policy announcement. It's a 20-year project. That's a timeline worth talking about. #FoodSovereignty #CdnAg #AgriFoodCA

Canada grows some of the world's best oats. The US mills them, packages them, and sells them back to us as breakfast cereal. We supplied the ingredient. They captured the value. Food sovereignty isn't about growing more. It's about controlling what happens next. #FoodSovereignty #CdnAg #AgriFoodCA

Montreal's "investigating" the graffiti; the empty part they're still blaming on saboteurs with very long box cutters.

Vertical farms. Heard of em? A lot of them collapsed. But it wasn't yield/m² that got em — it was energy/kg. So a paper proving yield has hit its ceiling isn't bad news. Every photon past saturation is now pure cost. The frontier moved from more to less. #EnergyEfficiency #AgTech

The barrel model of plant growth treats every input as a volume. Light isn't only fuel — it's information. Spectrum and timing don't fill the barrel, they tell the plant what shape to become. Any model where inputs are quantities will conclude environment engineering is finished. It isn't. #AgTech

Every niche crop story asks two questions: can I grow this, and can I sell this. The second one has ended more agricultural diversity than any climate ever has. We keep funding the agronomy and calling it innovation. #FoodSystems #LocalFood #Agriculture

Did you know? A saskatoon berry takes seven to ten years to reach full production. That one fact explains more about why farms grow what they grow than any market analysis will. Agriculture's binding constraint was never land or weather. It's that the feedback loop is longer than a career.

Every food institution that lives inside a budget line is one bad fiscal year from nonexistence. We keep calling that support. It's a dependency. The most durable things in a food system are the ones nobody has to vote to renew each spring. #FoodPolicy #LocalFood #Governance

"Resilience" arrives from engineering, ecology, and psychology, and those three don't agree. Engineering resilience means returning to a set point. Ecological resilience means never needing one. The industry adopted the word without saying which it's buying and that difference is the entire strategy

Nothing built to be temporary can ever pay back its own carbon. That's the finding buried under the urban agriculture debate — the footprint wasn't the growing, it was the demolition. Land tenure is a climate variable. We keep filing it under real estate. #FoodSystems #UrbanAg #ClimatePolicy

Insurance is infrastructure. It's just infrastructure nobody photographs. It shapes the landscape more than any tractor, and it's built entirely around the assumption that the weather is something that happens to you. #FoodSystems #Infrastructure #AgTech

Ten years of yield history decides what a nation plants. Not soil, not nutrition, not demand — an actuarial average. Every serious conversation about diversifying agriculture is actually a conversation about who gets to define acceptable risk. #Agriculture #FoodPolicy #FarmBill

Agriculture insures against weather because it can't control it. The moment environment becomes a design parameter instead of a hazard, the entire risk model — and everything it quietly decides a country is allowed to plant — stops making sense. #FoodSystems #AgTech #FarmBill

Traditional agriculture asks: “How do we grow more per acre?” Controlled environment systems ask: “How do we grow more per photon, liter of water, and square meter?” Different math entirely. #AgTech #FoodProduction

Much of global food production still depends on rainfall patterns we don’t control. As those patterns shift, the question isn’t just how much water we have— but how we design systems that can produce reliably with less of it. #Water #FoodSystems #Resilience

Satellite images of Lake Corpus Christi (2021–2025) show rapid surface-water collapse from drought and over-allocation. This isn’t a one-off climate shock—it’s a structural mismatch between water demand and a shrinking hydrological baseline. A preview of “water bankruptcy.” #water #sustainability

The UNU now calls this era “Global Water Bankruptcy” — not crisis, but structural scarcity. Key food basins and aquifers are permanently overdrafted. If water can no longer be assumed, agriculture must adapt its systems, not just its responses. #Water #FoodSystems #Agriculture #Sustainability
