I might be having too much fun with #WhatifPBL. Constant-acceleration card sort based on A Mole of Moles chapter from "What If?" Math background of students ranges from high school algebra to college math majors. It's a challenge. Levity is strategy. #iTeachPhysics. Word doc w/ cards: gvsu.edu/s/3NA

Representations of quantitative information. Students in #WhatifPBL read "How to Get Somewhere Fast" from How To by Randall Munroe. The representations they identified from the chapter fell into target categories (for the most part). Also reflected on pros and cons of each. #iTeachPhysics

Students used the Innovator's Compass in #WhatifPBL to draft the course's Ethical AI Use Policy for the syllabus. Note their desire to hold the instructor to the same ethical standards for AI use. #iTeachPhysics

AI companies: This technology we’re developing is dangerous and might destroy humanity and we don’t know how to stop it Other people: So we should strictly regulate it, create legislative guard rails, and monitor its development? AI companies: lol no the opposite of all that & give us more money

Today in #WhatifPBL, students also collectively brainstormed Community Standards to guide their team-based projects moving forward. They did it by recalling unproductive collaborative experiences they've had in the past. #iTeachPhysics

Day 2 of #WhatifPBL. Fermi Estimates: "What If--A Mole of Moles" and "How many calculator keys are on campus right this moment?" #ITeachPhysics Homework: "What If--Yoda." youtu.be/lLlwvmu1ZeA

Day 1 of my project-based learning course that uses Randall Munroe's "What If" books as gateway to creative problem solving. "What if spaghetti were the strongest known building material?" (This might look familiar...) #ITeachPhysics #MarshmallowChallenge

Since I can't see well enough to drive yet after having my eyes dilated, I will just critique ophthalmology logos. #iteachphysics

Compassion for your students is not weakness, it's strength. They see you. And they will respond by letting you expect more from them. #ITeachPhysics

If you use materials created by college faculty, they may be able to include that in their tenure/promotion portfolio. But they need to know you're using it.

Glories are amazing. I've seen a few while flying. The super cool part is how it's centered on *you*, so in vids like this you can even tell where the person is on the plane!

Hi 👋 I was the host of Serving Up Science, a PBS show created by WKAR with some of the kindest people in public media. We focused on the science of food. Not politics, not controversy. Now, half the team has been laid off. It’s a quiet unraveling of something deeply valuable. #uspol

Okay, who would like to volunteer to plot intensity as a function of time for a pixel from each resistor? :)

Piecewise Grading Reform Year 1: Lab Specifications
Traditional, points-based grading systems make it challenging to communicate that learning is a complex process, and that mistakes are opportunities for growth.

Simulating data for this new pre-lab is simple with the @desmos.bsky.social graph template created by @joemilliano.bsky.social. desmos.com/calculator/w... This is a pre-lab question for an E&M lab where students will be asked to extract magnetic field from a linear fit. @afreeparticle.com
