I took the gavel as the President of VetPartners this week. So incredibly proud and humbled to be able to serve this amazing group of veterinary professional and consultants.

Did we cry watching an early screening of the Stephen King adaptation of #TheLongWalk? Yes, yes we did. Review embargoed until 9/2, will share my thoughts then. And check it out in theaters 9/12!

Caught the World Premiere of ANOTHER SIMPLE FAVOR last night. Honestly, I enjoyed it even more than the first; a funny, twisty murder-mystery in beautiful Capri and with Blake Lively in the best, wildest outfits. Catch it May 1 on Amazon Prime

Nerd Haul! Picked up a bunch of comic books and a couple of books today - The Restaurant at the End of the Universe (second book of Hitchhiker’s Guide series) and In Sylvan Shadows (second book of the Cleric Canticle series). Looking forward to dipping in to these books on my upcoming work flights!

I’m Still Here - a powerhouse lead performance supporting a helluva script. I totally understand why this is up for Best Picture at the Oscars. 4.5 / 5 ⭐️ #filmsky

There’s a General Mills commercial where Jason Kelce’s wife makes a bowl of cereal by pouring the milk first and, honestly, I think that’s grounds for him to divorce her and call me instead. Just sayin

The Beast, a sci-fi/romance/dread filled film from director Leos Carax (Holy Motors), stars Lea Seydoux in the year 2044 who goes through a dna purification process to strip herself of emotions. In doing so, she relives her past lives / encounters with a man (George McCay) in both 1910 and 2014.

Cancer Update: After some bad news in December - I wasn't responding to chemo, so we stopped treatment in search of a second-line treatment - I was selected for a slot in a research study on targeting specific gene mutations! Very promising news to start the new year

Luca Guadagnino’s adaptation of William S. Burroughs’ QUEER is a sensory delight, finding itself at the crossroads of desire and control, connection and isolation, and the physical and the metaphysical. #FilmSky

Catching up on some films from earlier this year. Wow, RED ROOMS floored me. Dark and unsettling, the icy and enigmatic performance by Juliette Gariepy is spell-binding. A tense drama, and not for the faint of heart due to its subject matter, but I’ll be thinking about it for some time. #FilmSky

A Real Pain - Written and directed by Jesse Eisenberg, and starring Eisenberg and Kieran Culkin. Funny, poignant, caustic, and raw, A Real Pain taps into the idea of generational trauma clashing with personal trauma in a way that never feels too heavy, but which always carries weight.

That thing where a coworker sends you a crochet viking beard and helm after finding out you lost your real beard to chemo. Epic.

gentle thought that big political "activist" accounts may not be worth your attention if they post lots of angry soundbites but never post any call to for practical action like calling your reps or supporting your local library or mutual aid group or doing anything other than scrolling and clicking

Riddle of Fire - A charming adventure story a la Goonies where a trio of children embark on a quest where they encounter a rude huntsman, a witch, some entranced ghosts, and befriend a fire faerie - or at least, their version of these things. 4.5 / 5 ⭐️ #FilmSky #FantasticFest

William Lindus @themoviebear.bsky.social · 28/09/2023

Saw X - first audience to see this one (Secret Screening at #FantasticFest). Bloody and brutal, it scratches the Saw itch. I appreciate this one giving Tobin Bell more levels to play; it definitely allowed him to be not just the villain, but also the main emotional throughput. 3.5 / 5 ⭐️ #FilmSky

William Lindus @themoviebear.bsky.social · 27/09/2023

When Evil Lurks - Brutal and bleak with sudden descents into depravity captured as little vignettes of horror happening to the characters as they break the rules / get picked off. Incredibly effective though; from the director of Terrified, and coming soon the Shudder 4 / 5 ⭐️ #FilmSky #FantasticFest

William Lindus @themoviebear.bsky.social · 27/09/2023

DogMan - Luc Besson’s character study of a man who, after suffering abuse as a child, grows into a man with such a rapport with dogs that they help him commit burglaries. This one landed for me, partially because Caleb Landey Jones is such a star. 3.5 / 5 ⭐️ #FilmSky #FantasticFest

William Lindus @themoviebear.bsky.social · 27/09/2023

The Creator - In the AI vs humans war of The Creator, a soldier with every reason to hate AI beings is tasked with destroying a new weapon - that takes the form of a curious child. Recycled themes but fresh world building and performances. 4 / 5 ⭐️#FilmSky #FantasticFest

River - a warm hug of a movie about finding happiness while trapped in a 2 minute time loop with your coworkers and the guests of your sleepy resort town. As sci-fi comedies go, this one plays it simple, but left me feeling uplifted. 4.5 / 5 ⭐️ #FilmSky #FantasticFest
