Here's a funny thing about the right to vote: it wasn't won by voting.

One of the less remarked-upon aspects of atheism is how it changes the way you see sunsets. If you believe in an omnipresent God, then sunsets are one of God's intentional creations, which means that the beautiful colors refracting through the darkling sky were *chosen* to produce that effect.

I'll to come right out and say it: statistical extrapolation is *fine*. One of the most useful ways to understand the present and anticipate the future is measuring the things that happened in the past, find the correlations among them, and extrapolate likely future outcomes from those correlations.

Why are so many dem politicians out of touch? Do they actually think a MAGA voter will switch and vote for them if they are anti-trans? Independents don't care enough to have it impact their vote, they have other priorities, and it makes rank and file Dems less likely to support you.

Another example of our vacuum up economy: I've been getting ads saying you should pay your rent with a credit card. People don't have enough money for purchases, so they are targeting people's largest necessary expense. They get 3% immediately and can trap people with interest payments.

They disinvented the VCR. You might think that the reason we don't have VCRs anymore is because VCRs were supplanted by DVDs, PVRs and streaming, but that's not the case. They had it in for the VCR from the very start, and they never stopped trying to kill it. Eventually, they succeeded. 1/

A 1960s family living room in which a mom, dad and two kids are mesmerized by a cabinet-style TV. The image has been altered. The TV has an early 1990s VCR atop it. The TV screen is displaying a cross-sectioned human head with brains and spine on display. A huge fist has materialized in the room, with bloody spiked knuckle-dusters, smashing into the VCR. The oil painting over the sofa has been replaced with a pulp image of a male head, its cranium removed and replaced by a dome. Inside the dome is a red eight-segment VCR clock, displaying 12:00. The background in the painting is a tangle of cassette tape. The whole image's colors have been boosted, giving it an overexposed look.

In the '90s I collected a bunch of X-Men titles. Then while away at school there was some huge crossover where the titles changed names and you needed to read every one to find out what was going on. I haven't bought Marvel since.

You can probably say this about a lot of universes, but Battletech is different. It is very grounded and people focused. There are no aliens because of this focus. People matter and are good and bad, likely at the same time. Plus they get to pilot giant stompy robots - that fight like people.

The setting is such a great sandbox. There is room for grand war-of-the-roses novels and also a yearly pride anthology of fan written short stories. Both fit and are important and bound together by a fan base that wants to share and grow their love of Battletech.

Don't reserve a room at @wyndhamhotels.bsky.social. They overbooked and didn't have a anything for my family. No warning! Refunding my credit card had a two day wait. I had to rebook at another hotel for three times the price. Never trust a booking at a Wyndham Hotel. Corporate enshittification.

Just got back from a trip to rural Tennessee. No Trump flags or signs anywhere other than in the three Trump Stores. And all the stores were empty with no customers.
