What if we made the Thames Water people work for free instead of unemployed young people

Not unlike Bruce Dickinson owning a company that manufactures military drones despite all the anti-war songs he sang with Maiden and his solo albums, really. "What do you mean, I should hold myself to a standard? When there's money to be made?" Or being a Brexiter while living in France

I came out of uni in 2010 into the worst job market in decades, and this one is a thousand times worse. I had my first interview in June and was rejected for lacking experience despite it being the same field I've spent the last ten years in. It is utterly insane.

What benefit is this providing? I've been unemployed since last summer, been in the workforce 16 years, and it's glaringly apparent that qualifications and experience are no longer enough to find secure employment. Engaging with the job market is a kafkaesque experience.

We've spent fifty years bending over backwards to please business and what have we got to show for it? They resent having to pay their staff. They resent having to train their staff. They resent having to pay their suppliers. They resent having to pay tax. Now we're forcing people to work for free.

Remember that TikToker a couple of years ago who did almost just that? Perhaps it wouldn't have made the national papers if he'd been white

Just the other day Robert Jenrick expressed his desire to see refugees in the Channel being gunned down by the Royal Marines. Did these people miss that or something? Did a bee fly past and they were distracted?

In Stephen King's 11/22/63, at one point the main character comes across a sign with the phrase while he's in the early 1960s "Don't Mess With Texas", even though the phrase originated with an anti-littering campaign from more than a decade later

I am not interested in GTAVI enough to try and get back into the console ecosystem, because to get the highest level of technical fidelity out of the experience I would have to spend in excess of £1500, to be able to play one (1) video game

It's notoriously difficult for foreign companies to protect their rights in China. About 10 years ago Apple lost a case against some tiny company that started trading under the name Apple and stole their logo. If Valve were a Chinese company, that ruling would almost certainly have been the opposite

China is not a consumer-friendly country. There was a big scandal last year over it being revealed that containers shipping cooking oil had previously been used to ship crude oil derivatives without being cleaned first, the latest in a long line of "eh, fuck 'em, they're just proles" incidents

Might also help if they did something about employers abusing the apprenticeship system to dodge paying minimum wage. There's a Superdrug near where I live that's advertising an "Apprentice Retail Assistant" position, a role which does not need to be an apprenticeship for any reason.

It also presents Russia as being vastly more competent than they visibly are. If they're so well-organised as to manipulate another country into abandoning a highly beneficial economic partnership, you'd think they'd have been well-organised enough to send tank units into Ukraine with full crews
