Communications minister Anika Wells is to be congratulated for taking on the social media platforms. The clever people who built the Internet should be made to fix it. Wells sums it up: “If you built it, you are responsible for the risks”. theconversation.com/australias-d...

Australia’s ‘digital duty of care’ was just introduced to parliament. So what’s in the bill?
This is a large and complex piece of legislation, and the government has made adjustments in response to expert feedback.

I’m sick of immigration being blamed for problems it doesn’t cause
Migration has become an easy target for voter frustration, but the promised cuts are unlikely to deliver what politicians claim – and could create serious economic problems of their own.

The GST is what economists call regressive. It disproportionately affects people on lower incomes. Another 10 bucks on top of your $100 trip to the servo is nothing if you are well off, but if you are struggling it might mean you don’t buy bread this week.
