Discord Bot update: the code is of course far from optimized and I saw that YT throttles rss feed scraping on its end, but now instead of returning the last video it can also return up to the last 5 in a list. Not too shabby I'd say.

Some of you may remember I was taking Angela Yu's 100 Days of Python. Well, I recently finished it and decided to put what I learned to use making a Discord bot, which I've always wanted to do - no vibe coding, no gen AI, just straight up elbow grease and searches. It's not much but I'm satisfied.

I tested this with Brave, which usually is better, and it returned the same result, Doesn't appear to be just a Google thing. The Google Trends chart shows more interest by people in crumbl (a business) over crumble (a common English word). Engines value search frequency. This is the result.

One reason why I switched to Ghost and away from Substack is because the team appears to genuinely care about improving the experience even if it comes from competitors. That they credit and celebrate Buttondown's open-sourcing of an idea they ended up using is awesome.

One reason why Dr. Angela Yu's 100 days of Python is so good is being able to put your code learning into immediate, practical things. The last two days I made a NATO alphabet generator to print names in that format and a (crude but working) password manager. I've had so much fun.

Frank @thelowkeygeek.com · 01/01/2026

Definitely the same image but that's totally fine for me. In 2026 I want to, among other things: -Take a good swing at video content about the things I like or want to do -Acquire a new skill - work, personal, etc. I'll be back here on December 31st again.

The best diners are the ones where you shrug and say "sure I'll take 4 cinnamon swirl pancakes instead of 2" and then end up misjudging the size of said pancakes, so you have to take them home. Oops.

Some fun #Dreamcatcher #kpop facts from the database's metadata/tags (which you can search against): -The era with the most content was BONVOYAGE (374) -Food is mentioned or eaten in 383 videos -Yoohyeon appears solo the most (237) -The group appeared 1,230 times on music shows.

Ok, let's try this again, 2025. Of my New Year's goals this year I can share publicly: -Create Content You Love And Which Adds Value -Make Progress On A Language Let's see where I'm at on December 31st.

010

Frank @thelowkeygeek.com · 01/01/2025

In 2024 I made progress rather than accomplished my stated goals, because circumstances with my family and myself were ultimately what needed my attention. And I'm ok with that. Despite difficulties, I am grateful to make it through another year and hope to do better in the new one to come.

Read somewhere that someone thought Final Fantasy VI was a "cozy" JRPG and while I think they meant from a mechanics standpoint I laughed because otherwise there is nothing cozy about a brutal imperialist war, megalomaniacal clown villain, and, well, that thing that happened to the world and all.

UPDATE: Sweet, sweet revenge in Final Fantasy II. And all it took was taking advantage of the temporary overpowered character they put in your party and hiding like cowards in the back row. Truly the joy of old school games is partially these little loopholes.
