If at first you don’t succeed… Really enjoyed this one from Fineen Wycherley last night. Backs himself and makes a big play.

A short personal announcement from me: Looking ahead to the incoming season, I would love to provide a publication/TV company with analysis on upcoming fixtures. Can do it in English or as Gaeilge; whichever suits. Have done so for Tuairisc and TG4 in the past. Shares welcome.

A good win for Ireland. Didn’t think it wouldn’t happen, but still a lot of tries conceded. Will need shoring up towards the business end of the competition. But a great win all the same; Grace Moore’s try from the lineout move probably my pick of the lot. On to the next.

Looking forward to commentating on Connacht vs Ulster tomorrow. 🟢⚪️

That’s a great start for Ireland. Eve Higgins’s try (Ireland’s fifth) was hugely important; made what could’ve been a 28-21 scoreline into 35-14. Perhaps a bit too much kicking at times considering Japan’s numbers but overall, a fantastic start.

Really looking forward to Ireland vs Japan. Really not looking forward to having to watch it on my phone on a bus.

Credit to the Dragons for sticking to their guns but they’re expecting a lot from the WRU. (Welsh Rugby fans, it’s only a joke (kind of), please don’t light up my replies.)

Should be a cracker between Munster and Connacht today.

Keeps you busy, though, I’ll give it that.

Homework time before comms on Munster vs Connacht this Sunday. Just the essentials.

Sheehan banned for four games, but effectively three. Three games he was never playing in, realistically. But that’s the way it’s been for a while; not his fault whatsoever!

My Player of the Series would be either Tom Curry or Tadhg Beirne. Can see Finn Russell getting it, maybe. But for two guys who were written off before the first Test by so many, they were instrumental.

Blocked a guy here who had replied “friends and family XV” NINE TIMES in the last hour. I mean, are you honestly that stuck for something to do?

250

Jeff Neville (The Loose Head) @thelooseh.bsky.social · 02/08/2025

Wonder how the Series would have gone if Australia played like Test 2 and 3 in Test 1. Sure, maybe an element of “the Series is won” from the Lions. But it’s certainly been a very different ending than the start.

Jeff Neville (The Loose Head) @thelooseh.bsky.social · 02/08/2025

I’ve gone from 3-0 this morning to not being able to see the Lions score a try so what do I know.

Jeff Neville (The Loose Head) @thelooseh.bsky.social · 02/08/2025

I’d say the Lions will be delighted that Skelton gets a 30-minute rest just after halftime.

Jeff Neville (The Loose Head) @thelooseh.bsky.social · 02/08/2025

This game is bananas. Between the physicality, the weather suspension, the niggle, the playing of Sweet Caroline while a player is knocked out (not on, by the by)… Bananas.

If Jones stays on the wing, and I’m Australia, I’m kicking to him at every opportunity.

Jeff Neville (The Loose Head) @thelooseh.bsky.social · 02/08/2025

Australia well worth the lead. Physical, bullying, hunting turnovers, and being really aggressive in everything they do. A lot to be said for a game plan consisting of the above in rain like that. Did really well to nil the Lions but I don’t think eight points will be enough.

Jeff Neville (The Loose Head) @thelooseh.bsky.social · 02/08/2025

There is so, so much niggle in this game and I am here for it. #LionsTour2025

NICE. Women’s sponsor goes nicer on it. But I like how the men’s sponsor is colour coordinated and not a colour clash. That’s a great job.

LRZ gave it a good go in the NFL. All credit to him; something not many can say on this side of the world. Only 24, he has a huge future in rugby and some cool stories to tell the kids. The type of people who will berate those who try and fail are the types who will probably never try at all.

A 6/2 split on the bench. Amazing JvdF will still not be a Test Lion; I thought he would get in there. Going for 3-0 and no messing around.

Gutted for Ringer. He'll be 34 by the next Lions tour so he may never become a test Lion *but* with one selfless decision he did right by himself, his family, the team & potentially his sport as a whole & if that's his lasting legacy, it's something to be way prouder of than any cap, medal or trophy

Imagine the scene. You’ve just won a Lions Series. You were integral to the win. And you just have a very strong feeling you’re not going to be involved next weekend. Could be a good few days, eh.

Jeff Neville (The Loose Head) @thelooseh.bsky.social · 26/07/2025

Missing Skelton and Valetini last week, Australia were nowhere near the physicality level needed; Lynagh was acting as a catch-pass distributor as a result, pushing around a stagnant attack bereft of ideas. Front foot ball and quick recycling today and Australia were a different team.

Jeff Neville (The Loose Head) @thelooseh.bsky.social · 26/07/2025

That was a perfect clear by Morgan at the end of the game. Was never a penalty. I didn’t see head contact on any replay and body position was fine. If the same clear happened after 20 minutes and refereed the same way, nothing would be said. Time stamp shouldn’t change it.

Last three Lions tours. Drew one, lost one, won one: • Tadhg Furlong • Maro Itoje • Finn Russell • Elliot Daly Owen Farrell has won two, lost one, drew one of the last four tours.

Really looking forward to the second Test today. Fully expect Australia to be better attack-wise and more physical than last week. Still can’t see past a Lions win. But really hope it is a spectacle that befits the occasion.

I genuinely think an Australia win this weekend would do wonders for the buzz of this tour, which hasn’t been that exciting since the Argentina game.

Morgan, Farrell and Kinghorn in on the bench. Genge to the bench and Porter starts; I imagine it’s about keeping both as fresh as possible. James Ryan gets in on the bench. A real shame for McCarthy and Tuipoluto.

Every time I see him in real life or a photo, I always think the same thing: Ruadhan Quinn is a monster.
