the setting in contact chronitis shifts a lot depending on loop because it’s kind of a timeloop and kind of the psyche of a person who is trying so so hard not to haunt the narrative but is also very bad at not haunting the narrative so things kind of change as she does #QueerWritersChat

liars are best when they don’t realize it, when they truly believe what they are saying when they have such conviction in the lie that you want to believe them even though something doesn’t quite sit right about it I love a liar who deceives themself most of all #HorrorWritersChat

in insula, lies lead my five teens into horrific acts of violence in sternum, the truth is taken for a lie, and all who believe in that lie are transformed in phalanx, the lie is a comfort (the body blooms, withers, rots, grows new limbs, rots again and again and again) #HorrorWritersChat

I don’t have to do much to deceive my characters, they deceive themselves the tragedy of being a horror writer who stumbled into it is that I’d rather write something gentle unfortunately, my characters choose their own nightmares, often through that same self-deception #HorrorWritersChat

all fae lore has horror potential, and most wouldn’t need twisting: being spirited away, unable to get home, losing sense of self but I think the concept of losing time is the most frightening: walking out of faerie after a week and finding a hundred years has passed outside #HorrorWritersChat

the fairy returned the child exactly as promised, and so the child remained as months passed and then years, never quite aging, even as those around them did but were their fingers always so crooked,? their eyes so lightless? their teeth so needle-sharp? #HorrorWritersChat

technically the forest lord from my work in progress sternum is inspired by the fae they are ancient and terrible and their primary method for seducing my main character anemone is terrorizing and transfiguring her friends in order to entice her to stay in the forest forever #HorrorWritersChat

I always differentiate dialog depending on how the character in question would speak I eavesdrop frequently when I’m out and about to pick up different vocal styles that I can integrate into my writing however, I never write out dialects because it feels disrespectful to me #WritingPrompts

last night my sister saw a few of my open tabs which were labeled with things like “horrifying” and “most terrifying” and her immediate response was “why are you looking this up? you’re scary enough. stop.”

as a person who has been struggling with health for quite a while now with no real explanations or relief, medical horror for me is all in the waiting not knowing what’s happening inside of you, things that once worked not working anymore, feeling like a burden to those you love #HorrorWritersChat
