The display design of this sea urchin work was marvelous - each urchin test was lit from within by LEDs. The LEDs would be turned on and off to showcase the tests two ways. From the Exquisite Creatures Revealed exhibit @omsiedu.bsky.social by Christopher Marley.

Managed to catch the last day of the Exquisite Creatures Revealed exhibit by Christopher Marley at OMSI. Super sad that we didn’t see it earlier in its run, because I would have gone back multiple times!

I’m very aware of being out of proportion, with a loooong torso and short legs (it makes clothes, cars, chairs, bikes, and aerial equipment all super fun to navigate) but I’ve never had such a clear visual of it 🤣

Cast iron pan after stripping but before reasoning; second photo is after four coats of new seasoning. Small pan in both shots is an older, already fully seasoned cast iron for comparison.

State of the cast iron pan after filling washing off that second round of lye. There’s only a few small spots of seasoning left, easily at a point where a hard scrub with steel wool and bar keeper’s friend will get the rest off.

Cast iron pan coming out of its second round of lye soaking. Nearly all of the old junky seasoning came right off! The bowl at the bottom is vinegar for neutralizing the lye. As always, lye is super dangerous, so heavy gloves, eye protection, and a lot of caution are key!
