Congratulations on this amazing work! By any chance does this Sukuna-clade have anything to do with the Jujutsu Kaisen character name? 🫡 If so, fantastic nomenclature haha 🎉

Had a wonderful opportunity last week to present my research to the wider Biosciences community at the Year 3 Postgraduate symposium. It was very interesting to see the breadth of research taking place by my peers in different Biosciences research clusters. @sheffielduni.bsky.social

Quite a lot of work was performed in the course of the 9-weeks and it has been a very productive summer internship. I highly recommend supervisors to apply to the GenerationResearch summer internship scheme for the next intake!

We performed host ranging of our bacteriophage collection, along with some phage isolation from sewage, TEM imaging, and some growth curve data showcasing substrate binding specificity of our phages.

A very high level of science being communicated via talks and posters by undergraduates is something I was privileged to be a part of, as a supervisor to one of the many talents!

The tradition of naming phage systems after ancient deities has the side effect that one cannot evade them even outside of microbiology journals... 🧬🛡☕️

I am glad to have presented my research on substrate binding specificity of Enterococcal phages. Lots of thought-provoking discussions were had, collaborations established, and ideas that will be carried forward towards my project. Particularly on phage engineering.

It has been an enriching week of bacteriophage based talks, posters and discussions at Viruses of Microbes 2026. This 5-day conference gave me a lot to think about, both in the context of my current PhD project, as well as the future of this field (which is looking very bright quite frankly!).

I really appreciate your feedback and the ideas you gave on my PhD that aims to answer phage specificity interactions with the enterococcal cell wall @aharms485.bsky.social

I particularly enjoyed the talk presented by Prof. @aharms485.bsky.social on his research on viral dark matter. Having presented my research on Enterococcal cell surface recognition by phages, I got a lot of useful feedback from many researchers within, and outside the field.

Had a wonderful time at Microbiology Society Annual Conference 2026 held in Belfast this year. It was eye opening to interact with researchers from a variety of disciplines. Lots of talks on cancer biology, Eukaryotic viruses, AMR, implementation of AI in drug discovery and phage biology.

Found a lot of use through phage genomics workshop hosted by @milja001.bsky.social and it was great learning so much from his genomic pipelines. Lots to learn for me in this field, and very complimentary to my work done in the labs (and scraping alpaca poop for phage isolations!)

The discussions after both my oral and poster presentations were friendly and thought-provoking. I gained incredible inspiration from the work being done by Mikael Skurnik and our discussions after the talk.
