These posts by @merlinogames.bsky.social highlight nicely the biggest reason I disliked 007 First Light. It has a huge focus on story but tells that story in a very dull way that also constantly disrupts the gameplay. It doesn't even matter if the story is good when the presentation is so poor.

At the same time, I'm not at all surprised by the positive reception it's gotten, it just happens to be the kind of game I would normally avoid. The surprising part is that it was made by IOI.

I'm sad to report that so far I find 007 First Light pretty disappointing. It's way more cinematic than I was expecting, as in loads of cutscenes and walk and talk segments. When there is actual gameplay I'm generally enjoying it, but there's just not enough of it.

Speedrunning is a pretty bad example to bring up. How dare someone exploit a bug that they spent countless hours looking for? In a single player game? For FUN?? Those absolutely should not be a priority.

Pretty good stealth game here, one of the few that really goes for shadows and sounds like Thief. Lack of mid-mission saves was my biggest gripe when I played it some years ago, so now it's much easier to recommend.

Boring and forgettable chapter/mission/area names. Why go with "Chapter 3" when you could go with "We Don't Go to Ravenholm", or "Attack of the Fishmen", or "Sabotage at Soulforge".

Keep an eye on this one, their previous game Dreams in The Witch House was a really cool and unique mix of point-and-click, survival, and open ended investigation. I spent an entire in game week just furiously self medicating and sleeping off rat bites, insanity, and flu, and it was great.

Happy to see that Ghost Master Resurrection is a good remaster. The most frustrating bugs have been fixed (people no longer get stuck on stairs), the few changes are improvements, and the new maps are pretty good too. I hope it finds its audience, it seemed to come out pretty quietly.

I feel like the DF guys have spent too much time looking at graphical details too closely from technical perspective and just don't see the forest for the trees. I'm sure it's impressive on a technical level and if you analyze some individual details they look good, but the whole just looks awful.

At least in the demo, the lighting was a deal breaker for me. There was a colossal disconnect between mechanical darkness and graphical darkness, which is a red flag when you're supposed to hide in shadows.

Update: I had set myself as a political streamer longer ago than I remembered, so maybe that's it. And in that case, the setting streamers should look at is Stream Manager -> Edit Stream Info -> Content Classification -> Politics and Sensitive Social Issues Might be against TOS, idk. Fuck fascism.

Granted, a few months ago I did tag myself as a political streamer in an attempt to get fewer ads on my channel, and looking at the stats it may have helped. So had I not done that I MAYBE could've gotten close to a whole dollar!

I knew ad revenue on Twitch was bad but... What? These are my stats from the entire YEAR of 2025. Actually comical. Reminder to use adblock and whatever else it takes to get rid of ads, you're not supporting the streamer by watching them.
