I never understood why Americans elongate the wrong letters in an accentuated exclamation. Example: yessss! If you read it as written, you'd sound like a snake. Phonetically, it is really the e that gets elongated: yeeees! The rest of the world gets it. Maybe because most languages are phonetic?
