And to my understanding Wirtz played most of his time at Leverkusen off the left, so is he even suited to the position he's being played in?

Coutinho wasn't much bigger (if at all), stronger, quicker, than Wirtz, and Wirtz I don't think is any less skillful than Coutinho was, but the Brazilian was much more impactful. I wonder if its as simple as the PL not really being an accommodating place for a "10" like Wirtz is being used.

If you follow the timeline for the appeals etc, it will go until end Jan 2027. If City decide to appeal to the high court on a procedural issue, then who knows how long that goes. We could have the whole season play out and it might all be meaningless. Massive fuckup of a situation.

This, and the continued coverage of City like they haven't done anything wrong by journalists and commentators, may genuine make me fuck the whole thing off this season. Maybe even for good, depending on the outcome of the appeal and punishment.

This is like finding out Lance Armstrong was doping after his 3rd Tour de France and continuing to cover him winning his 4th like you didn't know anything. You're going to look really silly for this.

I maintain that at some point the Premier League is going to face a scandal even bigger than the City fraud - these refs will be exposed for the biased, corrupt, arrogant frauds they are.

Does anyone think he's a bad footballer? I haven't seen any of that. But he hasn't performed anywhere near what he's capable of on a consistent basis for Liverpool, and he has been far below what most people expected of him. And criticising him for that is perfectly fair.

Man City itself is an example of how lax the PL has been in setting high ownership standards - Siniwatra bought the club despite all the shit he was accused of in his home country.

Newcastle's owners dissolved a man in a vat of acid 🤷

theklopptimist89.bsky.social @theklopptimist89.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
A smarter man would've simply said that this is an issue the owners will deal with and is not for him to get involved in. That said, he'll probably be sacked and forgotten long before this thing is resolved so his arrogance here won't even matter.

I think thats a tricky one for the PL as well. They've had such degenerate owners of clubs that have fallen foul of their own supposed standards that they haven't kicked out, so doing it now with City they'll get sued into oblivion.

Think thats a difficult one for the Premier League itself to police. That should be a matter for law enforcement though, because everyone complicit in it committed fraud.

Its crazy that people are genuinely assigning any more importance to it for Liverpool players than it simply being a PL game that they should want to win because they play for Liverpool. As if one league game could be retribution for what City have done.

Basically, they're letting this continue for so, but if anyone tries to impose any real punishment on City then they'll step in to protect their UK's relationship with the UAE?

He didn't develop these views while ageing though, did he? They've likely always been his views, but he just has less inclination (voluntarily or involuntarily) to hold them back.

I definitely didn't appreciate his full skillset until watching him this season. He's good more pace than I realised and the dribble and skills he shows to create space for himself has also surprised me.

Surely City would've anticipated a potential scenario where they get relegated and contracted with sponsors and players to protect themselves against that? Though perhaps they'd become so arrogant about their cheating that they assumed they would win or find a technicality to get out of it.

theklopptimist89.bsky.social @theklopptimist89.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
Lets be real, the EFL would likely take them with open arms because of the attention they will draw to the league because of who they are. They've probably also contracted their players in a way to retain them in the event of a relegation. We also know they won't lose their major sponsorships...

He can thank his lucky stars Liverpool blocked the move in the end given yesterday's news. Might have saved him from playing non-league next season.

City fans now pretending to be disappointed in their club's leadership? Fuck off, mates. 99% of them didnt bat an eyelid all these years even though it was obvious that they were guilty. In fact, most DEFENDED & glorified it. And lets be honest, pretty much all fans of any club would've done same.

They will probably first challenge the verdict, and then challenge whatever the penalties are. It'll go on til 2095. But one thing fans of other clubs can do now - stop fucking using these cheats as a measuring stick for anything. They are who they are because they CHEATED. They are not an example.

Mama has been as good as you can expect from a keeper that is sitting on the bench most of the time. Chiesa cost peanuts so thats a free hit basically. Araujo looks boss. Barcola has barely had chance to settle. So no, mate. Thats a pretty decent hit rate when generally 50% of signings fail.

Thats just a mad nonsense take. Ekitike looked fantastic before his injury. Leoni too, but he barely had time to settle before getting injured. Isak has barely had an injur free career but starting to look top quality. Ngumoha is a potential star.

Thats fair. There were probably moments he could have been more aggressive. But perhaps its be design because we lack defensive nous in midfield to protect the defence if it doesn't come off.

Gravenberch effectively being shown that if he wants to play in that role behind the striker then he's at best 3rd choice. Probably 4th when Ekitike is fit. And thats dead right imo.

Wirtz finds himself in great positions in the opposition third all the time. And he has failed to regularly make an impact from there. He could have the best defensive midfielders behind him and they won't change that.
