I'm on the Embedded Insiders podcast this week, talking about what Rust is all about and how teams are adopting it. embeddedcomputing.com/technology/s... I apologise, I bring up the "broken elevator" legend as the origin story.

Existing in online groups is increasingly difficult when half the people think all LLM generated code is bad, and half the people think that expressing that opinion is bad. I don’t see how this can be reconciled.

“My computer program is a real person and has feelings” - well, no, but also do you ever think about the people you paid a dollar an hour to to give CSAM a score out of ten?

Humanists UK mourns Dame Esther Rantzen (1940–2026) Esther was a great champion of human dignity. She approached her final years with the same fearless determination that defined her career of advocacy, using her own experience to shine a light on the suffering caused by our outdated laws.

I'm declining to publish the next PR for my open-source project because it's just too good and I don't think you're ready for it. It's not because it's simply not finished. Trust me.

The Observer’s editorial today is about how Andy Burnham should “channel the white heat of AI to make the government more responsive, make the economy more attractive to investors, and – as promised – improve people’s lives” What would improve my life is not having to read this bollocks.

When it’s broken you might fix one problem, but not all the problems, and see no change and you don’t know you actually made it better. At least now it works I can do something to break it, then fix it again.

If you type text into a box on a website and click a button to send the text to the website owner, the website owner gets the text you typed into the text box. And if the website owner is super keen for you to type text into that text box on their website, there’s probably a reason for that.

Jenrick: “Even if you can’t abolish, I don’t know, Natural England within the first 100 days, you can stop funding it, you can turn the tap off and the tap will be turned off a lot of these quangos, and that will drive savings.”
