Why is it so important to allow wildlife to fend for itself instead of offering food? It's because feeding wild animals puts them in danger! So let's skip the handouts and help wild animals thrive on their own - by protecting healthy, biodiverse native ecosystems. #wildlife #conservation #animals
An illustrated scene of fields and trees, with outlines of birds in the sky and deer, squirrels, ducks, fox, and hedgehog on the ground. Why Feeding Hurts Wildlife. We all want to help! Why do wildlife experts tell us not to? Approaching people: animals labeled nuisance often get hurt. Disease or food seeking behavior can put people in danger. An illustrated girl runs scared as a squirrel climbs in her hair. Malnutrition: Bread, peanuts, and other foods are unhealthy. Wildlife need their natural diet! Drawing of several peanuts. Overpopulation and Crowding: diseases spread fast and harms the ecosystem (eg water quality, predation) illustration of dozens of birds clustered around a single feeder. Help by preserving what animals need to thrive on their own! Plant native plants, Leave the leaves, Avoid Pesticides. International Wildlife Rehabilitation Council logo in a cloud.

Please don't feed injured, orphaned, and ill #wildlife you find! It takes extensive knowledge and training to know what to feed, how to feed, and when it is safe to feed injured or orphaned wild animals. It is easy to cause harm, potentially even irreversible harm, even when you mean well!
A stylized illustration of trees, grass, and sky, with birds, squirrels, ducks, fox, and a hedgehog. Found injured or orphaned wildlife? It's better NOT to feed! Feeding wild animals can harm or even kill, when they are fed: the wrong food, while starving, while dehydrated or cold, with certain injuries/illnesses, in the wrong way or with untrained techniques. Give the animal what it needs most until a rehabilitator can help! Quiet, warm, and dark. Did you know? Baby mammals need different kinds of milk! Don't feed cow, human, nut, or pet milks to wildlife without training. WARNING: harm from improper feeding can be permanent. Logo for the International Wildlife Rehabilitation Council in a cloud.
