Since October 2023, there has been a surge in reported bias incidents against Muslims, many of which have been life-altering and, in some cases, deadly. That includes the tragic murder of six-year-old Wadee Alfayoumi by his family's landlord Joseph Czuba in Illinois in 2023.

The majority of Americans say they do not know a Muslim. For many of these Americans, what they know about Muslims comes from media representations. However, according to media content analysis, more than 80 percent of television media coverage of Islam and Muslims in the United States is negative.
