Had 90 minutes to kill between showings so that meant a visit to The Good Video Store. Added She Killed in Ecstasy (1971) to my Uncle Jess collection 📽️

Compulsion (1959) is a hell of a picture. Fantastic performance by Dean Stockwell. And Orson Welles gets top billing even though he doesn’t show up for over an hour. That’s my king. He absolutely owns the movie too 📽️

Now watching Nothing But Trouble (1991). Can any movie that has Taylor Negron in it be truly bad? I have seen this but I was a kid so other than a couple scenes and Aykroyd’s makeup, I don’t have much memory of it. Love Demi Moore’s hair 📽️

Wednesday is a holiday so I bought a matinee ticket to Primetime. Do I dare get up early for a 9:40 showing of Transformers: The Movie? 📽️

Oof…Hell Hunters (1987) took me 4 viewings to get through. It’s only 98 minutes but it is a long 98 minutes. How could a movie about fugitive Nazis in the a South American jungle fortress be so boring? They tease a serum that turns people into Nazi zombies but it is never actually used 📽️

First time watch of Martyrs (2008) and what a movie. Strangely uplifting. I know she’s not the star of the show but wow, Catherine Bégin. What presence, what a face. I would have watched 6 more hours of just her and her little glasses 📽️ #horrorsky

Ignoring the quality of the teams and the personality of the coaches, Clemson/North Carolina is a really pleasing game to look at. They both have nice uniforms and they complement each other really well on the field

Letterboxd seems to be down, I need someone to remind me that I watched Cyberjack (1995) aka Virtual Assassin tomorrow so I can log it. It’s as good as you’d expect a movie starring Michael Dudikoff and Brion James to be: pretty pretty good 📽️

Now watching Primal (2010). There’s a lot of movies with that title, but this is an Australian one about college students going to view remote cave paintings and getting a disease that causes them to kill each other. Maybe eat too? Looks like they’re going to get some sharp teeth 📽️ #horrorsky

Watching The Chronicles of Riddick (2004). It’s only really alright but I’m enjoying it a lot more than Pitch Black. It has several things going for it: the art direction and costumes, Karl Urban’s hair, Colm Feore, how the CG switches from pretty good to pretty bad, often within the same scene 📽️

I’m going to automatically ignore your pasta recipe if you start with “boil in lightly salted water”. I know you’re not serious. One of the best pieces of advice I ever heard was that your pasta water should taste like the ocean

First time watch of The Crazies (1973). One thing I didn’t expect is that the opening 20-30 minutes is mostly about logistics. We haven’t really seen too much of the crazies so far and I kind of love it 📽️ #horrorsky

Now watching Resident Evil: Retribution (2012). This one seems the most blatantly video game-y so far. Also the most fan service-y, which I guess is not surprising considering the series is a decade old at this point. They do add Kevin Durand, so I’m pumped for that 📽️ #horrorsky

Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004). Not nearly as good as the 1st one. Some plusses: Milla naked, my boy Nemesis (RE3 was my introduction to the series), the brisk pace, that one dude getting mauled immediately after his hero moment. I hope they give Alice amnesia in every instalment 📽️ #horrorsky

Trying to get back into a movie mindset by watching something random The Eternal (1997) aka Trance. An alcoholic couple goes to Ireland to visit a relative but comes across a bog mummy instead. I think? It’s up in the air. Great cast with baby Jared Harris and Christopher Walken 📽️ #horrorsky

Now watching The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm (1962), filmed in Cinerama. Takes a minute to get used to the perspective but the effect is amazing. The screen seems to go on forever, while also having the effect of a toy diorama where everything is posed just so 📽️

Been on a bit of an Old Hollywood kick, will get back to horror soon. Just finishing Ivanhoe (1952). Combination of a big, swashbuckling epic, while also being strangely cheap. But it’s a lot of fun and the technicolor is gorgeous. Also young Liz Taylor, dumbfounding how beautiful she is 📽️

Watching Mutiny on the Bounty (1962). Love that Bligh is clearly a monster but Fletcher Christian is portrayed as an asshole as well. Right from the start he is working against Bligh. Just a pretty film to look at 📽️
