My students can never accurately determine what my politics are because I'm pretty matter-of-fact in defining or explaining things. I've heard some call me a communist because for them anything more "neutral" than hyperbolic denunciation is "approval". I am, however, blunt about how Nazis suck.

Very odd way for them to view it. Just thinking of my experience as a German teacher, I had to learn a lot about fascism because understanding it as completely as possible is essential in teaching about how and why it was awful and how to oppose it.

Way off topic but a thing that Gundam does frustratingly well that a lot of franchises often ignore or don't consider is that it takes seriously how wars work. It considers things like supply lines, strategic competence, tech dead-ends, hubris, brain drain, institutional amnesia, the list goes on.

A favorite things about this era of Star Trek production was that Prodigy gave us a humpback navigator in Voyager's cetacean ops. It warms my heart that we picked back up on the thread of animal personhood established in The Voyage Home and followed through to show a humpback as an equal being.

It’s also a problem I unfortunately see accelerating before it will slow down or reverse. I see it in action daily as a teacher. The prevalence and ubiquity of LLM’s have latched onto our eroding consensus on what reality and truth are, and degrade the value of expertise and shared social ideals.

these reminds me…. last year I was teaching a level 2 language course to high school freshman. One of the brightest and sweetest girls in the class chose him and sincerely described him as smart, intelligent, attracrive, kind and nice. We truly do live in diametrically opposed realities.
