Ontario is closing supervised consumption sites and expanding HART Hubs. What should policymakers prioritize when designing addiction and mental health services? #PublicHealth #Addiction #Ontario

I believe Ontario's supervised consumption site closures are misguided, even if they are well-intentioned. The question isn't harm reduction or recovery. The question is how to support both. People need pathways to treatment, and to live long enough to use them. #PublicHealth #Addiction #Ontario

Supervised consumption sites and treatment programs serve different purposes. One reduces immediate risks. The other supports longer-term recovery. Public health works best when people have access to both. #PublicHealth #Addiction #Healthcare

Who has had the biggest positive impact on your recovery, mental health, or resilience? What did they do that helped? #Recovery #SocialSupport #Resilience

When we talk about recovery, we often focus on programs and services. Those matter. But research also points to something simpler: supportive relationships. Connection can be a powerful protective factor. #Recovery #SocialSupport #Resilience

Research consistently shows that social support is one of the strongest predictors of recovery and resilience. Sometimes the most powerful thing a person can do is simply be there. #Recovery #SocialSupport #Resilience

Was there a moment when your understanding of addiction changed? What experience, conversation, or piece of information helped shape your perspective? #Addiction #Recovery #MythVsFact

Canadian debates about addiction often focus on individual choices. Research points to a more complicated reality involving trauma, mental health, housing, social isolation, and treatment access. The causes of addiction are rarely simple. #Addiction #Recovery #MythVsFact

MYTH: Addiction is simply a choice. FACT: Research shows addiction is influenced by brain function, environment, mental health, trauma, and social factors. Choices matter. But addiction is more complicated than many people realize. #Addiction #Recovery #MythVsFact

Have you ever avoided asking for help because you were worried about how people might react? If you're comfortable sharing, I'd like to hear your experience. #MentalHealth #LivedExperience #EndTheStigma

Recent Canadian mental health campaigns continue to highlight stigma as a major barrier to seeking help. Public health isn't just about having services available. It's also about creating conditions where people feel safe enough to use them. #MentalHealth #PublicHealth #EndTheStigma

Stigma isn't just hurt feelings. Research shows it can discourage people from seeking healthcare, treatment, and support while increasing isolation and delaying help-seeking. Stigma changes behaviour. That makes it a public health issue. #MentalHealth #PublicHealth #EndTheStigma

What book changed the way you think about addiction, mental health, recovery, trauma, or public health? For me, it was In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts by Gabor Maté. I'd love to hear your recommendations. #BookRecommendation #Addiction #Recovery

Many addiction debates focus on policy. In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts asks a different question: "What happened to the person?" Evidence matters. So does understanding the human story behind the statistics. #BookRecommendation #Addiction #Recovery

Time for a book recommendation One of the central ideas of In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts is that addiction is often less about pleasure and more about pain. Understanding addiction starts with understanding the people experiencing it. #BookRecommendation #Addiction #Recovery

What public service has had the biggest positive impact on your life? Healthcare, education, libraries, disability supports, public transit, addiction treatment, emergency services, or something else? I'd love to hear your stories. #PublicHealth #Community #PublicServices

Healthcare debates often focus on systems, budgets, and wait times. Those things matter, but so do the people behind them. Public services should ultimately be judged by how they affect the lives of the people who rely on them. #PublicHealth #Community #PublicServices

Public services are more than budgets and government programs. At their best, they help people overcome barriers, improve health, and create opportunities. The most important question isn't what a service costs. It's what outcomes it creates. #PublicHealth #Community #PublicServices

What is one thing someone said or did that helped you feel understood during a difficult time? Sometimes the smallest acts of understanding make the biggest difference. #MentalHealth #EndTheStigma #PublicHealth

Stigma isn't always obvious. It can appear in assumptions, stereotypes, or conversations that make people feel unsafe seeking help. Public health depends not only on available services, but on whether people feel comfortable accessing them. #MentalHealth #EndTheStigma #PublicHealth

Stigma isn't just hurtful. It's a public health issue. When people fear judgment, they're less likely to seek help, access healthcare, or talk openly about what they're experiencing. Reducing stigma can save lives. #MentalHealth #EndTheStigma #PublicHealth

What experience made you feel heard during your recovery or mental health journey? For me, one of the biggest moments was when my family stopped arguing with me and started to listen. They just accepted that my experience was real and met me where I was. #Recovery #Addiction #LivedExperience

Ottawa's supervised consumption sites are expected to close. People with lived experience have warned that these closures would lead to the outcomes the government is trying to prevent. Good policy starts by listening to the people most affected by it. #HarmReduction #PublicHealth #MentalHealth

Why does lived experience matter in harm reduction? Because data can tell us what is happening. People can tell us why. Research helps us understand populations. Lived experience helps us understand people. The strongest solutions are built on both. #HarmReduction #LivedExperience

Why "The Human Outcome"? Because when discussing addiction, mental health, and harm reduction, the most important question is often the simplest: How do these policies and systems affect real people? That's the question this project aims to explore.
