The Bear Mountain Bridge opened 100 years ago today, with almost 5,000 vehicles crossing it in the first day. Construction on the 2,257-foot long bridge began in March 1923 and it was opened to the public on November 27, 1924. It's the oldest of the bridges owned by the NYS Bridge Authority.
