Maybe find a different design that would allow you to use the squares in an orientation that matches what you have! There are a lot of Granny square bag patterns out there! Make your own up! Crochet is the best for that

That happens to me as well. If I work on a certain project while thinking about something, I'll think about that thing every time I work on the project...unless I do something else that catches my attention more, like watching my favorite show or movie. Sometimes, I've been able to retrain my brain
