Pretty good comic tbh. I read it back when it was coming out. Seems like there are a lot of options for fans of Ice Cream Man to try out before the Roth movie.

I just assumed it did. That is very bizarre but only like the 4th most bizzare thing I've heard about this cursed movie.

As someone who has a 4k disk of ICE CREAM MAN (1995) coming to me from @vinsyn.bsky.social, I should be the core audience for ICE CREAM MAN (2026) but the AI slop in it means I'm not touching it. Instead of buying tickets to the AI remake grab the OG. #horror vinegarsyndrome.com/collections/...

That's right. I knew it was too good of a feature to be on my scream factory or mondo macabro naschy movies. I almost forget VS dipped their toes in his filmography. Glad they did since they put the best feature in any of his releases in one or their few Naschy movies.

Watching the anti-Franco pro-freedom 1978 Spanish film THE PRIEST. Ultimately a scathing critique of the excesses the result from sublimated sexual desire in repressive societies. Directed by gay socialist Eloy de la Iglesia. Happy pride. Go watch some gay movies. #filmsky

#NowWatching: IDENTIKIT aka THE DRIVER'S SEAT (1974). Elizabeth Taylor at her most delightfully unhinged in this enigmatic movie. Some movies straddle the line of exploitation and arthouse because they can't commit. This one straddles the line because it is so committed to both. #FilmSky #Movie

I guess I have a more expansive definition of slasher. I think Halloween quite obviously is following a blueprint from TCM. Final girl. A looming masked killer. Family trauma. It just makes it more stylish with less grindhouse feel.

000

The Horroratee @thehorroratee.bsky.social · 19/05/2026

Even then I don't agree. I think TCM was the first smash financial success in American Slashers.

A fun watch once, a few memorable kills and her taking photos with her tits was iconic. But definitely much less fun than the sum of its parts.

May as well also lodge my complaint with their characterization of Blair Witch as the first found footage movie too while I am at it.

100

The Horroratee @thehorroratee.bsky.social · 19/05/2026

I have some major disagreements with their characterization of the development of the slasher genre, but it doesn't take away from the overall point.

100

The Horroratee @thehorroratee.bsky.social · 19/05/2026

Good thread. Horror drawing on youtube influencers as a market strategy is right in line with the genre that used to give out barf bags as a gimmick. This is all just a part of a long proud tradition of exploitation and God bless them for it. It's why horror is the most resilient genre.

110

The Horroratee @thehorroratee.bsky.social · 19/05/2026

I don't think horror movies need to be scary and often think the fastest way to make a horror movie go from mediocre to bad is by being more invested in startling you than in being interesting or having something to say.

000

The Horroratee @thehorroratee.bsky.social · 19/05/2026

I don't want to see them in the criterion closet. I want them in Severin Cellar or at least the Arrow Video store. When you have people with such great iconoclastic taste having them pick some movies everyone already celebrates feels like such a waste.

Apparently ALUCARDA (1977) will likely never get a true HD restoration because the original film material is too degraded. So the Mondo Macabro DVD is almost certainly the best version we will ever see. So I recommend snagging it from them if you are interested in this one. #horror
