From inside federal prison, staffing shortages are not abstract. They become lockdowns, canceled programs, delayed medical trips, shorter movement, more tension, and less accountability. When staffing breaks down, the whole institution becomes more unstable.
Quote card with the heading “BOP Staffing Shortages.” The main text reads, “Understaffing becomes a safety problem for everyone inside.” The card is credited to Gregory J. Marcinski, Senior Writer, Prison Journalism Project.

Nearly 40 women detainees have launched a hunger strike at Delaney Hall, the immigration detention facility in New Jersey that has been at the center of an ongoing strike launched by men at the facility last month. bit.ly/4vfwYiw
A person holds up a pink sign reading "ABOLISH ICE" during a protest. Various people are gathered and wearing casual clothing. There's a fence and building in the background. A text overlay at the bottom reads: "Women in ICE detention launch a hunger strike. They're calling for the release of all mothers, as well as women under 21 or with medical conditions from detention at Delaney Hall in New Jersey."

My name is Gregory J. Marcinski. I've spent more than 25 years in federal prison. From inside prison, I write about prison life, mental health, faith, rehabilitation, and the people behind the labels. A place for honest conversations about justice, redemption, and what it means to remain human.
Blue-and-white introductory graphic for Gregory J. Marcinski. Large text reads “Hello, Bluesky.” Smaller text says “Journalist • Writer • Commentary from inside prison.” A notebook, fountain pen, papers, sunlight, clouds, and blue butterflies create a calm writing-themed scene.
