You know what pisses me off? You could never ‘Catch them All’. That was a lie. A lie that haunts me to this day.

The hardest thing to come to terms with my writing is sometimes the best thing I can do is just stop and start again the following day. Just cause you’re sitting in front of a computer all day doesn’t mean you aren’t working really hard.

Not everyone can write romantasy. Someone has to hold down the kinda LIT/Rpg kinda fantasy with a little bit of horror but actually I just write gross stuff genre.

The further and further I get into my indie author career I find myself falling back on the same difficult question. How the hell am I supposed to market a book when I, like everyone else, has to live in a world where horrible atrocities happen every day?

Zac Gray @thegraymage.bsky.social · 22/09/2026

Am I writing book 3 too fast? Am I just becoming a better writer? Or have I spent so much time thinking about where this story is going that it’s coming out so much easier than the others?

First Book: 39 Chapters. Second Book: 38 Chapters. Third Book: I’m 15 Chapters in and it does NOT feel like I’m close to halfway.

After months of struggling not to get to angry on the internet to help promote my book I am shifting to a new method. I am now unbearably sassy.

Imposter Syndrome is real. Flip a coin and on that day I either hate my books or love them. Flip a coin and one that day I consider pulling them from everywhere and dropping a new one I know isn’t finished cause it’s just so good.

PNC I know it’s automatic, and honestly very nice of you, but I don’t need an email twice a day reminding me I only have 20 dollars in my account. I don’t need an email to remind me I’m poor. 🫠

Three rules that have fundamentally changed my social media experience for the better. 1. If they don’t have a profile pic. BLOCK THEM. 2. If they have never posted before. BLOCK THEM. 3. If they have less than 10 followers. BLOCK THEM.

Sometimes I sell a lot of books. Sometimes I sell none. But I always write on the company dime so it’s like I’m getting paid to do my dream job anyway.

You know what’s weird? Saying I have two full books published. Would’ve never thought I’d get to the point where I was confident enough to do this.

Zac Gray @thegraymage.bsky.social · 10/09/2026

I post about my book every day. Why? Well I want you to buy it. But also? I like to talk about the things I enjoy doing. And let me tell you, writing Book 3 has been a lot of fun.

The second book in the Cracked Kingdoms series is done!! Now begins the formatting. Crazy thing? I kinda like doing it.

000

Zac Gray @thegraymage.bsky.social · 02/09/2026

Hardest part about finishing edits on my second book? Explaining to people how proud I am and trying to convince them to read 1000 pages to get to the scene I want to talk about.

000

Zac Gray @thegraymage.bsky.social · 02/09/2026

I say this to my future readers. If there are errors, all I can say is. My bad dog. After 10 different edits, sometimes I still miss stuff.
