#OldAlbumOctober Day 31: Whilst their back catalogue has its peaks and troughs, this is an amazing absolute classic. Perfect production, riffs to die for, bat-shit gothic keyboards, etc Just doesn't get much better than this "Care for some necrophilia?" indeed...

#OldAlbumOctober Day 30: Happy memories of Bradford Rio's where I spent many a happy night in the 90's watching bands as diverse as WASP through a Paradise Lost warm-up gig to Agnostic Front and many, many more....

#OldAlbumOctober Day 29: ...and from one favourite band with a big back catalogue with only one suspect album to another Always loved this song

#OldAlbumOctober Day 28: Had to include some Motörhead on here somewhere. Love pretty much everything they did (even "March or Die" has it's (albeit rare) moments, but this being the best alum they released outside of the "Classic Lineup" era is a hill I'm prepared to die on

#OldAlbumOctober Day 27: Had to pick up some bits yesterday, needed a suitable soundtrack to help face the Sunday Shopping Zombie Hordes, hit "random" on my phone This was the selection and a thoroughly suitable choice I'm sure you'll all agree (Possibly saved a few lives and me a prison sentence)

#OldAlbumOctober Day 26: Not been impressed by any Testament release since "Formation of Damnation" so not bothered with their latest. Instead, digging this out by a band that I'm sure will be the first to admit that they may have been oh-so-slightly influenced by Chuck and company...

#OldAlbumOctober Day 25: As there's a trend for bands getting back together, I'm undecided in this case if it would be a good or bad thing (if indeed it happened) Three awesome albums, each slightly better than the previous - would a fourth spoil it (although Coroner have shown what's possible)

#OldAlbumOctober Day 25: Sadly missed them when they played with Faith No More in 1990 and it possibly sounds a little "of its time" but that's also a good thing. They don't write 'em like this any more 😀 (Also featured comedian Steve Hughes on drums at one point of their career fact fans...)

#OldAlbumOctober Day 23: Some albums (and bands) are like toastie makers. You forget about them for a while, remember them, dig it out, use it constantly for a few weeks then forget about them for a while, rinse and repeat Exhibit A. Love it and forgot how much I love it every time I dig it out

#OldAlbumOctober Day 22: Sadly probably more relevant than it was 30-odd years ago, as much as I love Killing Joke, I have to listen to them in moderation as I usually end up in a bad mood for the rest of the day. It's like listening to George Carlin routines put to music

@goc1978.bsky.social I know you don't do "the other place" any more, but thought I'd pass this on (the fact that "Predator 2" not only is below "The Predator" but not even on the list tells me everything I need to know...)

#OldAlbumOctober Day 21: If Pete Steele (RIP) was still around, I can only begin to imagine him pissing himself laughing at those that spectacularly miss the irony and humour in his music in these "enlightened times', this album in particular

Gord @thegordlife.bsky.social · 20/10/2025
#OldAlbumOctober Day 20: Still undecided on the new album (could a half decent production job have saved it?), so in the meantime back to a classic (and a reminder that Anthrax have the second best song inspired by Judge Dredd...)
000
Gord @thegordlife.bsky.social · 19/10/2025
#OldAlbumOctober Day 19: Been a huge Overkill fan since the 80's and DD Verni is possibly my biggest reason for picking up the bass (and then actually trying to learn how to play it 30 years later), so his side project was a no-brainer Completely different from his day job but certainly interesting

Gord @thegordlife.bsky.social · 18/10/2025
#OldAlbumOctober Day 18: In an alternative universe somewhere, this album got the kudos and sales it deserved, John Bush is still the vocalist and you can go to an Anthrax gig and not know the tired set list. Unfortunately... Maybe this album should have been titled "Why We Can't Have Nice Things"

Gord @thegordlife.bsky.social · 17/10/2025
#OldAlbumOctober Day 17: ....and speaking of Dimmu Borgir, can't beat a good (storm)blast of this. Forgot how bloody HUGE the production is! People talk about the work of Bob Rock on "The Black Album", but this is on another level "Pure Fucking Armageddon" indeed....
110
Gord @thegordlife.bsky.social · 16/10/2025
#OldAlbumOctober Day 16: Like a completely bat-shit clasic Dimmu Borgir, another album that was part of my soundtrack to the late 90's There is/was a trend on Facebook of "That one album that reminds you of a certain time in your life". If you've only got one, you aren't listening to enough music

#OldAlbumOctober Day 16: Mentioned in a previous post that when Prong are firing on all cylinders, they're on a different level and this is a perfect example. One of the many on a long list of "I remember this album being good but I'd had forgotten just HOW good!"
010
Gord @thegordlife.bsky.social · 14/10/2025
#OldAlbumOctober Day 14: Having mentioned Testament yesterday, only fair to talk about them in a positive light I know this era splits the fanbase (and wasn't supposed to be released under that name), but always been loved this and the followup (would take either over anything post "Formation...")
000
Gord @thegordlife.bsky.social · 13/10/2025
#OldAlbumOctober Day 13: Possibly peak "Tin Foil Hat" wearing Dave with some very "questionable" lyrics (although not as bad as some recent Testament releases), but some seriously great riffs ("Black Swan" is possibly my favourite 'Deth song since "Rust...") and first rate production.

#OldAlbumOctober Day 12: Outside of a couple of songs, never got into or understood the attraction of Queens of the Stone Age, whereas always felt that the post-Kyuss work of John Garcia was criminally overlooked, both this and Slo Burn being fat more interesting to these battered ears at least...

Gord @thegordlife.bsky.social · 11/10/2025
#OldAlbumOctober Day 11: Sadly missed them at Dynamo '97 (thus meaning that it's unlikely that I'll ever get the chance to see them live) Not a fan of their early (and then later) Death Metal stuff, but when they go Industrial and sound almost like a "Gothic Rammstein", it really hits the spot

Gord @thegordlife.bsky.social · 10/10/2025
#OldAlbumOctober Day 10: Like a better and darker Ministry with twin vocals, picked up after hearing a track on a sampler CD (insert generic "Kids today how easy they have it" comment here) Not quite as good as I remember, nice hot of nostalgia and takes me back to a certain time of my life...

#OldAlbumOctober Day 9: Still remember (and will never forgive) Don Kaye giving this one "K" in Kerrang! and having to get it on import via mail order from "Alice's Records" (one for the oldies there 😉) - no allegedly tax-dodging websites in those days kids! Easily in my top 3 Overkill albums

Gord @thegordlife.bsky.social · 08/10/2025
#OldAlbumOctober Day Eight: Despite being the "more open-minded" 90's, I seem to remember the press having an issue with a band of females sounding like Alice in Chains whilst any number of male copyists got a free pass Whilst there is an obvious influence there, its a different take and great CD

Gord @thegordlife.bsky.social · 07/10/2025
#OldAlbumOctober Day Seven: In a moment of "Didn't realise they were still going", upon hearing a track from their (highly recommended new album), gave this it's first spin for a VERY long time Being a lot more open minded than I was back in the mid-90's, sounds even better now than it did then...

#OldAlbumOctober Day 6: No doubt one of the many bands influenced by Paradise Lost "Gothic" (more on that band and indeed album in the coming weeks), Orphanage were a band discovered at the Dynamo Festival in '97, with a set featuring "headbanging monks" at one point 😀

#OldAlbumOctober Day 5: The "Unholy Trinity" are usually played on a fairly regular basis but I often forget about this Sounds just as good as it did in the early 90's (Saw them on the promotional tour with "Mind Funk" in support whose manager was fired not long after I'm guessing...)

Gord @thegordlife.bsky.social · 04/10/2025
#OldAlbumOctober Day 4: Can't remember how I found discovered this album, but guessing it was from the (much missed) "Metal Hammer Show" on Planet Rock (discovered so many bands from tuning in) Still sounds good, Burton from Fear Factory in great form (especially the cover of The Cult's "Rain")

Gord @thegordlife.bsky.social · 03/10/2025
#OldAlbumOctober Day 3: When Prong are on it, their albums are on another level. Whilst their lesser ones would be good by the standard of some other bands, you can't help but compare (good problem to have) Whilst this has it's moments and isn't as bad as I remember, not a patch on the classics

Gord @thegordlife.bsky.social · 02/10/2025
#OldAlbumOctober Day 2: Remember buying this album as soon as it came out and playing it to death (then somehow managed to miss them every time they played anywhere near) Didn't realise until recently it actually pre-dates "Demanufacture" by 12 months. If only this album had received the same push

In a moment of "Why did this take me so long?", recently upgraded my memory card from 12 to 126Gb, obviously meaning I didn't have to keep swapping music on my phone As a result, going back and listening to stuff not I've played for ages, posting a few on here, starting with.... #OldAlbumOctober

I know a lot of people go all gaga over it, but never been a fan of Metallica "Fuel" It's taken a couple of decades but I think I finally understand why I'm not a fan. Amongst other reasons, it's because it's a Poundshop version of Overkill "Fast Junkie"

Working from home today which usually means listening to "slightly more mainstream" music in the background, but having read about the sad passing of Tomas Lindberg, it's going to be At The Gates for the rest of the shift. Gutted. "Slaughter of the Soul" is a BEAST of an album... #RIP

No less than six CDs on pre-order (although technically the new Dark Angel was released last week, just hadn't arrived from the States yet) Guess I'm going to have to take a hiatus from eBay to give the bank balance time to recover....

Death, taxes and a Rock radio station playing Thin Lizzy "Jailbreak" before going on to make an oh-so-hilarious joke about "somewhere in the town? Maybe the jail?" Stop, stop, my aching sides... Guess it's almost worth it not to hear "Whiskey in the Jar" or "The Boys Are Back in Town" I suppose

#RIPValKilmer Whilst it seems everyone is talking about him in "Top Gun", it's his role in "Heat" that I remember him best for (holding his own against De Niro and Pacino. Top 10 film for me)
