The Scottish Greens are demanding the £2 bus fare cap be extended to night buses across Strathclyde. The services are classed as “premium fare services” and excluded from the cap, which was extended to bus services across Strathclyde in September. Holly Bruce, Scottish Green MSP, raised the issue at General Questions last Thursday, asking what discussions Transport Scotland had held with operators about extending the scheme to Glasgow’s night services.

Drivers will be able to shop around for the best fuel prices as Google Maps begin to display them in real time. This follows a recommendation by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA). Within 30 minutes of changing prices on the forecourt petrol stations must report their prices - or they risk a fine. The CMA can enforce this. Most petrol stations are inputting the data to FuelFinder and this is used on apps including Waze, the AA, Confused.com and now this is integrated with Google Maps.

Protest against military use of spaceports poses questions for Glasgow

Protesters gathered outside the Scottish Parliament from midday, holding a large hand-painted banner reading ‘Keep Space for Peace’ and talking to MSPs and parliamentary staff entering the building.

Review: Jeff Fowler’s Grand Design
Jeff Fowler’s hour-long visual album, The Grand Design, offers a gentle, intimate reflection on art, place and connection in a world increasingly saturated by synthetic noise. Filmed across twelve distinct landscapes in Los Angeles, this winsome project blends songwriting, visual narrative and spatial sound into a single, cohesive cinematic journey. The film functions less like a conventional pop showcase and more like a quiet love letter to creative persistence, personal space, the experience of middle age, and the bond between human creativity technology affected through craft.

Facing a suite of digital instruments linked to a real-time system dubbed the “Jam-Bot”, the Dream Theater virtuoso was neither playing along to a pre-recorded backing track nor yielding to an autonomous composer. Instead, he was improvising live with a neural network trained specifically on his own musical vocabulary.

Philip Glass’s Heroes Symphony brought David Bowie’s Berlin period into a different kind of focus at Glasgow’s Tramway, where the Royal Scottish National Orchestra performed the work as part of Sonica Festival. Conducted by Patrick Hahn, Glass’s 1996 symphony takes six pieces from Bowie’s 1977 album Heroes and strips them back to their underlying structures, allowing the melodies and rhythms to emerge through layers of repetition, strings, brass and percussion.

Review: Glass’s Symphonic Celebration of Bowie ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
In a concert on 1st October marking ten years since David Bowie’s passing, Philip Glass’s Symphony No. 4, Heroes, performed by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra at Tramway in Glasgow, offered an intriguing look at how art rock can give rise to structural exploration through the minimalist end of the contemporary classical tradition.  Joined by digital artist Tatsuru Arai, whose screens behind the orchestra fused natural and abstract forms, alternating between monochrome and colour, the ensemble delivered a clear, focused concert that prioritised musical shape and discipline over theatrical flair.

Glasgow landlord stripped of HMO licence over “substantial” Sauchiehall Street fire risks
Glasgow City Council has refused to renew a multiple occupancy licence after firefighters discovered tenants were living in an unsafe property with blocked escape routes and defective fire doors. Glasgow’s Licensing Committee formally rejected Anna McMullan’s renewal application on Wednesday. The property, which currently houses five tenants, failed two separate safety audits this year. Initial inspections in February by the council’s HMO team and firefighters revealed compromised escape routes blocked by clothes dryers, missing electrical safety reports, and coat hangers obstructing fire doors.

Glasgow social housing construction costs jump by £50,000 per home
The average cost to build an affordable home in the city has reached £278,000, as council officials warn that budgets are failing to keep pace with rising construction expenses. A recent Glasgow City Council report revealed that average construction costs for housing associations rose from £226,891 in 2024/25 to £278,000 the following year. The rapid increase has been attributed to contractors “pricing in risk due to the cost of fuel” and a strategic shift towards building larger family homes.

More than 500 streets across Glasgow are set to receive new 20mph speed limits as part of a safety rollout. The speed reductions will primarily affect the north and west of the city later this month, and the second phase of a wider project aimed at converting roughly 3,800 streets from 30mph to 20mph. Council officials hope the move will decrease the severity and frequency of road collisions.

Liam Rudden’s Must See Theatre for October in Glasgow
The Car Man, a Waitress, ghostly presence and Seventies Salford are the highlights you'll find on Glasgow stages this month. With Hallowe'en fast approaching, thoughts turn to ghosts and ghouls and all things spooky... cue, It Walks Around The House At Night (15-17 October), at The Tron Theatre. Are you ready to be scared? When an out-of-work actor takes a job playing a ghost at an old countryside manor, he expects nothing more than a few cheap scares.
