How Perecian is Perfection? I've just finished Democracy and the Urban Form by Richard Sennett - it's incredible and goes into some of the early thinking into how/why cities were built, mixed with social theory, class and architecture.

I appreciate your engagement and this discussion. I'm very aware of how ableist the world is (I work with a number of disabled artists) and as I originally mentioned, I'm interested in finding out who is doing interesting thinking/research about AI, disability & environmental impact.

Thanks Joseph, all super helpful. I've just bought a copy of CripShip and look forward to playing. I wonder (as I work a number of visually impaired folk), is there a .doc version available as well as a pdf as pdfs are not very screenreader friendly.

video/audio creation and the rare earth metals/materials needed to make AI chips, all those steps & processes increase that environmental damage. How can we in good conscience continue to use/evolve/develop AI knowing the environmental cost?

Mr Abbott @thegeometrician.bsky.social · 23/05/2025
The tension is if we agree that we have caused a climate crisis & tipping points have been reached causing irreversible damage to the earth (pre-AI), then by using AI we're adding to & increasing that environmental impact. Through LLM training models, every generative Chat GPT (or equivalent) 1/

Who is doing interesting thinking/research about AI, disability & environmental impact? One of the tensions I'm grappling with is e.g. visually impaired people use assistive technology/apps which have AI at their centre & make their journey through our ableist world easier. Links/humans welcome.

Do you think this will be a generational shift? Will that late teenage/early 20s generation who experienced COVID with the constant messaging about not touching and keeping your distance reject any form of interactivity in performance? Some of the best works I've ever experienced were interactive.

Weathering was the best thing I saw last year; towards the end of the show I had a sweaty, drenched and exhausted performer before take their rest on me for 5 minutes, leaning their arm on my thigh - it left a residue on my clothes and on me. Why did the majority of the students object?

"Much of the concern raised was...the idea of representativeness: of the Reference Group, of those at the open events (or giving provocations) and who would be involved in future. Participants noted that the use of the chat and discussion simultaneously was difficult to follow and inaccessible."

Mr Abbott @thegeometrician.bsky.social · 31/01/2025
"Participants said that it would be useful and that they'd appreciate access to transcripts and recordings to revisit and share. Since we’d said that all contributions would be anonymous, we’ve not done that...hopefully this summary provides many of the benefits, while also being more readable."

"Participants were asked to vote in a poll, to indicate...if they felt the discussion represented a consensus position...or there were substantial gaps." "Although there was broad consensus around the overall state of touring, there was a desire for other key points to be raised." #theatresky
