Ah, once again it's hard to give a simple answer given the many factors at play in our game. Remember that we are talking about a reward for skilled players, thus it's not something required to avoid "grinding", it's an extra bonus (or personal goal) should you need extra loot

Super Chasm Hunter is actually pretty sandboxy in that regard, so sometimes you need more resources, sometimes you want to explore new areas...it's up to you really. This new key does not lock your run, should you prefer loot, it just changes its course.

Depends, to be fair tho it's not a gamble that can result in a loss...Treasure Rooms give guaranteed good loot, it's just that you don't know exactly what items you are getting. True question is, what's your objective during a run? Need more loot or want to get further?

yes and no. You can come across a treasure room before a bossfight and check out the amount of chests and crates inside of it, but you won't know their exact contents, meaning you only get an estimate of the value (which is high nontheless)

The choice is between more loot (generic loot, no direct upgrades) or early acess to more difficult levels. Thus we reward skill with either a boost on resources or more challenges!

A Mushroom Key, the Flawless Key exclusive to the Mycelium Mines, the first Layer in Super Chasm Hunter.

A new Treasure Room containing some rare chests and breakable crates, requires a Flawless Key to be unlocked. Treasure Rooms are a guaranteed spawn in every level, offering a great reward for players that manage to take down at least one boss without taking damage.

At the end of the level, after the main boss, the player can now choose to access the Endless layer using a Flawless Key of said layer (in this case, the Mycelium Mines). With this, skilled players can choose to skip entire levels and directly acess the most difficult area of their current layer.

Not really, but to be fair shields are a very new weapon class, so we have less data on them compared to other items. We are looking forward to receiving more feedback once we release the Demo on Steam!

Again, it depends on player choice of playstyle. During our playtests we found that there is no real meta, which we took great pride in. Player chose their loadout not based on raw damage or safety but based on their own goal for a run

...meaning that you will sacrifice valuable inventory space to gain more safety during combat. More challenging weapons (like the iron buckler) will reward player skill, instead that player equipment, allowing for more freedom. Both are viable options, players get to choose

It may depend, mainly, on player choice of overall playstyle. In Super Chasm Hunter you have to balance combat, resource gathering and your equipment...easy-to-use weapons (like the wooden shield) are ok early on but require more effort and resources (like backup weapons) to remain viable later

Yes! the Wooden Shield (seen in the post), for instance. It has a defensive ability, Block, with a much more forgiving time window that negates incoming damage. As a tradeoff it's much weaker in combat, having a light attack that pushes enemies back

Like the other weapons in our game, Shields actually have 2 different abilities. The Iron Buckler, the one with the parry, is designed as a fast assault weapon so it's pretty fast. As a result, the parry itself offers a narrow timeframe 👀

🛡️Tower Shield - Basically a support tool if you are going for a very slow, tanky build that allows you to hold your ground and push enemies away.

🎯Iron Buckler - That can be actually used for aggressive playstiles and allows to parry incoming projectiles.

🪵Wooden Shield - ok this one is not that good, it's just a cheap alternative if you want to play more defensive.
