Brussels was told to stop deleting von der Leyen’s texts. It’s sticking with auto-delete. The Commission says preserving them for public access requests “cannot be reconciled with the necessary cybersecurity measure”, while a legal expert says they could simply be stored securely elsewhere.

As RCS' #1 hater, it makes me happy to see a respected project like @grapheneos.org say the obvious out loud: RCS is not open and relies on a bunch of proprietary services. Not to mention being inextricably linked with the most evil identifier of them all: the phone number.

The cybersecurity guards in frontier models perfectly illustrate the weird incentives in software engineering. They equally block vulnerability construction _and_ attempts to improve the correctness of software because they are both the same task.

I've had to respond to multiple OSS security issues recently and the wild thing is that agents can now generate exploits just on the *rumour* of a bug. This throws security embargoes out the window, as the fix is less important than the knowledge of its existence anil.recoil.org/notes/rumour...

Just a rumour of a bug is enough to find a security exploit these days
Thinking through how the conventional OSS security embargoes no longer buy us time, and what open source maintainers might do instead to respond
