Today in 2020 I released a single in Afrikaans. Translated, the title Uit die Storms en die Dieptes means "out of the storms and depths". It is from a project I call SOPHIA, which stands for Songs of People's Hearts in Afrikaans. You can stream it on your favourite platform. #thefreddieerasmustapes

And same day Music for the Masses. (Yesterday, A Broken Frame and on the 24th, Some Great Reward) Certainly a special month for DM releases.

#ForeverYoung by #Alphaville is a legendary 80s synth-pop album. The vinyl here was a placemat in Zeppelins, Mossel Bay. I almost asked the owner if I could have it, but it was already bent and scratched. I still have the CD below, which is well looked after and stored with my other treasures.

On this day in 1999, #Sting released #BrandNewDay. It's the album that also gave us the gigantic Desert Rose and After the Rain Has Fallen. It is an album that still sounds current, yet fused with Sting's timeless fingerprint. My favourite track is A Thousand Years.

Today in 1982 #DepecheMode released one of their cornerstone albums, #ABrokenFrame. It is my favourite from the early era. Barely 21 and already creating such a moody masterpiece after losing their main songwriter. The album ends with one of my favourite songs of all time, The Sun and the Rainfall.

After 2010, great albums are significantly scarcer, but we can always rely on the legends for more. #MusicComplete is one of #NewOrder 's best albums. It is chock-full of synth bliss, melody, British melancholy and accessible choruses. It boasts a Brandon Flowers feature and my favourite, Academic.

When I see album covers like #TheSeedsofLove or #inXs, I automatically see a collage of iconic albums, which saturated the charts of a magical era: Undefined by instrumentation, or stock standard examples of pop or rock – just super creative and sophisticated late 80’s/ early 90’s cornerstones.

My favourite track, Lie to Me, was almost included on the Touring the Angel live set, while Something To Do featured briefly during the Devotional Tour in Brussels. I prefer the live versions of the singles and album track, If You Want, on The World We Live In and Live in Hamburg, as well as 101.

Today in 1984, #DepecheMode released their 4th studio album, #SomeGreatReward. It peaked at No. 1 in Germany and delivered the singles People Are People, Master and Servant and the double A-side, Blasphemous Rumours/ Somebody. I share more fun facts and views about it in the comment section.

These are my four favourite Tori Amos albums. Please tell me yours/ A generous use of synthesizers can always be found in my influences. There hasn't been as much talk about Native Invader as the other albums, but Mary's Eyes, Cloud Riders and Up the Creek are only a few of my favourites on there.

I am sure it's a controversial opinion that my favourite Floyd album is a fight between A Momentary Lapse of Reason and The Division Bell. Not only do I agree with you, but I understand that Wish You Were Here is also the favourite PF album of David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright.

#rattlethatlock by #davidgilmour is one of my favourite albums. I love how On an Island and Rattle That Lock create a continuum on the Pink Floyd albums, A Momentary Lapse of Reason and The Division Bell. Give the four singles, A Boat Lies Waiting, and Beauty (my choice for album opener) a whirl!

Two number ones, a #DustySpringfield collab, contributions by #EnnioMorricone and #TwinPeaks maestro #AngeloBadalamenti, and a vampire in your music video, who would later become #Gandalf in #TheHobbit and #LordoftheRings. That a good enough resume for an album? Yes, that's #petshopboysactually !

I wasn't the biggest fan of Roxette albums after Have a Nice Day, until 2016's Good Karma. It is still the latest Roxette studio album and is also the last to feature the late Marie Fredriksson. Very underrated, but fantastic pop-rock songs and production. #roxette #roxettegoodkarma

Ben Hillier was a perfect producer for Playing the Angel, but Sounds of the Universe perhaps proves that DM shouldn't work with the same producer again. Though DM proved for 3 albums they can exist without Wilder, his remix of In Chains maybe proves otherwise? Nevertheless, masterful songwriting!

That's 32 Celcius for me. That's hot! I can't do heat, Aaron. I guess I am what they call heat intolerant. Over here we are supposed to have fall, and we did for a well, but now we have hot humid days. One good thing is the thunderstorms. But they are usually gone by March.
