Yesterday we shared the story of Jane Ingham, who baked at The Folly in the 1840s and 1850s. Nearly 180 years later, the Coffee House is still a place to enjoy something homemade! 🍰☕ What's your favourite Folly treat? Open Mon-Sat, 10am-4pm.

This pipe from The Folly’s collection has a Chester-hallmarked silver mount, possibly dating to 1908-09. Smoking was once commonplace in homes, pubs, workplaces and on public transport. Today, we understand its serious health risks much better. What memories does this object bring back?

British summer, 1861 style. Settle travelled to Clapham for cricket - and rain fell "in torrents". Naturally, they spent the delay "discussing a splendid lunch". At the rematch Settle led by 21 runs, before "a panic seemed to seize the Settle men".

For World Photography Day, meet the Horners - a Settle family who photographed North Craven for almost a century. Michael began in 1864. Anthony took over aged just 16, Elizabeth Ann also trained as a photographer, and their son Eddie continued the story. Their collection lives on at The Folly.

An update from The Folly An issue with the first-floor joists means the Museum will now reopen in 2027 while the necessary conservation work is completed. The Folly Coffee House is unaffected and open as usual. Thank you for your support.

Weather has always been a little unpredictable in Settle. In 1866, the Settle Chronicle recorded rain, heat, cold and one of the greatest hailstorms remembered locally, with 3-inch hailstones, damaged windows and greenhouses, and three cows killed by lightning. bit.ly/4wkzsfA

For a few moments in 1927, the sky over Giggleswick mattered far beyond North Craven. The Astronomer Royal and Royal Observatory team came here to observe the total solar eclipse. This little eclipse viewer was almost certainly made for that event. “Don’t Risk Eye Strain.”
