My #BlackHistoryMonth. My paternal grandparents, Antoinette Wilhelmina Sanches and James Johannes Gordijk. Both born in Suriname, in 1897 and 1887 respectively, and they started their family in Guyana. James' father, Frederik Willem Gordijk, was born into slavery in 1859. He died in 1938.

I was honoured to pay tribute to former MPP Mike Farnan in the presence of his family at Queen's Park today. Mike passed away earlier this year after a lifetime in the service of others. He served with integrity, charm, warmth, and a strong sense of humour. He will be missed by many.

Chair of the police civilian board wants a pat on the back because in 2023, the WRPS started measuring its disproportionate use of force against racialized people. A rich, cultural experience in KW this weekend: running into friends at a pow wow on Sat, plus Prof. Laura Mae Lindo's book signing, & a workshop for new play "The View From Here" today.
