Here are the process pictures for this one. I wanted to draw the characters on model for this rather than tracing the original panel, mainly because I liked the challenge. To account for this, I tried to make the rendering as close as I could to the comic.

1 year ago, Dog of the Samurai graced (small) screens around the world, and audiences were introduced to the tragic tale of a dog who, in an effort to avenge a man, became a monster. If you haven’t seen it yet, go check it out!

This design was fun to tackle, and credit where it’s due, Alien Evolution’s preliminary drawing was a great basis to start from.

I was originally going to use my own caricatures of my friends, but elected to treat this as more of a study of @sethkearsley.bsky.social’s original piece, also done on paper (no tracing here btw). I of course had to make myself Whitey.

A mix between a Water Buffalo and a Heron, I was certain this out there creature design would put me in. But alas, animation is immensely competitive. No matter, when the next chance to join the Avatar universe arise, I will meet the opportunity head on once again.
