Happy #BatmanDay! Batman Day was officially launched by DC Comics in 2014 to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Batman's first appearance in Detective Comics #27 in 1939. Coincidentally #Batman legend Adam West was born on this in 1928.

Even though three full size animatronic #sharks were built for #JAWS, some scenes just used a dorsal & tail fin. One example is the #shark entering the pond and a deleted version of the estuary #attack where the shark swims along with the victim in its mouth.

Spielberg and Bill Butler turned fear into art 🎥 #JAWS (1975) redefined #cinematography with its haunting underwater shots, masterful use of perspective, and tension built through what isn’t shown. Proof that sometimes, the scariest monster is just below the surface.

During the scar scene in #JAWS, you may have noticed Quint adjusting his belt just before Hooper unbuttons his sweater. In the script, Quint did show a scar on his belly that was the result of an encounter on Iwo Jima involving a bayonet. This was likely cut to keep the scene moving.

Steven Spielberg originally planned to introduce Quint in #JAWS by showing him in a movie theater watching #MobyDick (1956), laughing so loudly at the whale effects that everyone else walked out. The scene was never filmed because Gregory Peck, declined permission.

Director of photography Bill Butler wasn't Oscar nominated for #JAWS but shared the Oscar for One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest for supporting the camera work. Ironically One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest beat JAWS to Best Picture.

Quint's boathouse set was built in Martha's Vineyard on an abandoned lot. The city council made the production crew sign an agreement to demolish it after filming and replace everything exactly as it had been, right down to the litter 🦈 #jaws

SAY AHHHHH.... Bruce the #shark from #JAWS was made from a wooden framework, with animatronics for movement, and then covered in a polyurethane skin that was coated in paint and sand to give him a lifelike look on screen.

Happy #Internationaldogday! 🐶 The real Pipit who played Pipit in #JAWS was a Martha's Vineyard local. Years later a fan theory proposed that Pipit wasn't killed by the #shark and can be seen on the bridge as Chief Brody runs to Michael just after the pond attack.
