You're right! No fire in the sky, yet...thankfully.

It is lovely out there, but sticky, hot, strange...has a apocalyptic feel. The breadth of the smoke coverage is hard to imagine.

This is the first time I've seen White Ibises in the nearby swamp. I've seen Glossy Ibises there in the past (seldom). There were a group of seven (?) Whites, including that darker juvenille in the background. #photography #naturephotography #birds #whiteibis #ibis

Had an agreement with the local bird union: take some leave some. The birds aren't holding up their end of the bargain. Years ago I bought a net to keep them from eating the berries. That seems silly now. I am trying to encourage visitation.

I think you're right. Was removed in 1975 due to vandalism. I had the impression that there was a tower up there, but that likely came from a map that I referenced years ago. There is a cool picture of the tower when it was standing, here: www.friendsofshenandoahmountain.org/reddish-knob...

You bet! It's a special place. I imagine there are countless memorable experiences that have occurred up there! 😉 I have recollection of a tower, too. I thought I misremembered or something. Wasn't the tower on Bald Knob?
