In republics it is appropriate for the government to set an expectation of accountability oriented to uphold the principles of Peace, Justice, and Liberty, upon the wealthy/powerful. And when they fail to live up to said expectations it is appropriate to compel them so. This is done by force of law.

Tyranny is expensive. Corruption is expensive. Incompetence is expensive. The most enlightened amongst The Founders understood this, and they wrote checks-and-balances and civilian representation into the Constitution. The GOP has betrayed Our Founding Principles. This fall, they have to go!
