Phil May (1864-1903) delighted in drawing Cockney types for Punch, reflecting life & humour of the London streets at the turn of the century. The text read:- Her: What's that there blank space left for, Jim? Him: Why that's for folks as can't read. What a brilliant drawing! #PhilMay

Wayne Boring started as an uncredited assistant ("ghost") for Joe Shuster in the late 1930s, began drawing the comic strip, and became the principal definitive Superman penciller through the 1940s and 1950s. He defined the broad-chested, square-jawed look of the hero. #Superman #WayneBoring

So to the greatest cartoon character ever created. #Superman was created by Jerome Siegel & Joe Shuster and launched in Action Comics #1 in 1938. Early Superman drawings were fairly crude & basic but the muscles were apparent and survived as new artists lent their skills to developing the character.

The cartoon character Jane Gay was created by Norman Pett in 1932. The strip was published in The Daily Mirror & during WW2 she became infamous for losing most of her clothes during each escapade. When subs put to sea, captains would have advance copies of the strip & issue them daily to the crew.
