I'm going to eat some crow. After looking into "German Serota," I've decided that this is indeed a fake. There doesn't appear to be any such artist, no exhibits etc. Countering with a hyper-real piece by my late friend Drew Galloway. I KNOW it's real, & he lets the rust on the metal create the look.
An oil painting by artist Drew Galloway titled "Calico" (2012), rendered on a weathered, horizontal rectangular sheet of found tin metal. The hyper-realistic landscape captures a tightly cropped, high-contrast reflection of a dense forest line across the still, dark surface of a Southern swamp or marsh. Skeletal tree trunks and bright, dappled canopies of white and green foliage are mirrored perfectly upside down. The rich, deep brown and ochre undertones of the composition are formed by the natural rust, oxidation, and aged patina of the raw metal canvas showing through the translucent layers of paint.
