Look!! I made a Christmas tree. This will be a whorl for a supported spindle. I have left the top quite fat so I can drill and insert a 3mm dpn. #spinningtools

No access to the lathe today, so I used the sander. 3 drawer knobs. Interesting results. Just need to neaten off, wax, polish and drill a hole and they'll be spindle whorls. #spinningtools
A photo of 3 wooden drawer knobs that have had their original shape changed. The left one had its base reduced, the middle had both its top a d bottom reduced equally. The right one had its bottom changed.
All three are sitting on a polished wooden surface with paper in the background.

In progress shot of a supported spindle whorl on a wood lathe. I love this particular wood (possibly hawthorn), it's so smooth to lathe. I'm also using different tools. #spinning #spindles
A photo of a small branch clamped on to a wood lathe. The branch has been reduced in the centre and is larger at either end.

There is a dark metal horizontal bar rest at the foreground of the image.

In the background there is a box on the left with a tub and black plastic bit in the cente.on the right are chisels hanging on the wall and a half finished wooden bowl sitting on top of a cube of wood.

Sorry it's a bit blurry- brach on a wood lathe, showing the end bit. This photo shows a piece of cylindrical pale wood, thicker bit on the left (held in the chuck). Attempt no one at a shaft end for a supported spindle. Made it too small. It'll become an earring. #spindle #supportedspindle

Loving this wood, I think it's hazel, so smooth and easy to shape. This pointy hat will be a whorl to a supported spindle. #SpinningandFiberPrep
A photo of a cone of wood. I have used a wood latge to create this from a branch. The point is facing right and there is a bit of bark left on the piece in the .iddle front. It is resting on a red cardboard. With wood laminate backdrop.

Note to self. Yes one can turn a 10mm bamboo needle on a lathe - but it's not a nice experience, and the end result isn't that good either. Try other woods, then make a spindle.

Normally I spun for 2 hours a day in the morning. Recently I've been going to a wood workshop at that yime and have only managed 5 mins! Those 5 mins were demonstrating how I use what I'd just made - supported spindle bowls.

I'm using up some odds and ends of my handspun yarn in freeform weaving. Here I've used thick and thin turquoise yarn, unspun fivre, plied natural white shetland, lace. The white yarn has been crocheted into a chain then woven to add texture. #SpinningandFiberPrep
A photo of a wooden frame on a grey background. There is a textures loopy weaving at the bottom of the frame.
Cont from main section:
I've looped long strands of white plied yarn to lie on top of the turquoise and green layers. There are bright white strands, these are single ply tencel yarn.
