Thea @thea.hutchings.gen.nz · 23hBack in the 1980s the billionaire with a talking self-driving car with rockets ran a shadow campaign that fought _against_ criminals that operate above the law. Somehow in the past 40 years those criminals became the billionaires... 040 4
Thea @thea.hutchings.gen.nz · 16/10/2026“Estrogen causes blood clots and breast cancer” is the “Vaccines cause autism” of transfeminine HRT. Neither are backed up by evidence, the initial conclusion was made from bad data (though not fraudulent for HRT), and both are used to gatekeep life saving treatment. 021 2

Thea @thea.hutchings.gen.nz · 15/09/2026Pak’n’save and New World are not chains. Foodstuffs does not own any supermarkets. Foodstuffs is a purchaser co-operative. You buy in to the co-op and get rights to use the branding and the logistics network. Woolworths is a chain and all profits are sent to Australia. 121 2

Thea @thea.hutchings.gen.nz · 23/08/2026The plot gets fainter as the pens are old and almost dried out 😆 New old stock pens are really expensive right now, but it looks like I can refill the ink or 3D print replacements. 010 1

Thea @thea.hutchings.gen.nz · 23/08/2026Looks like it, and there's some without shipping costs twice the price of the item! Though the plotter has RS-232 serial input as well so I'll probably start with that. Though first I need to get a working set of pens. 010 1

Thea @thea.hutchings.gen.nz · 15/08/2026Well they don’t _need_ them because platform screen doors have existed for decades, but I guess the system they want is integrating with ETCS level 2 or something like that 020 2
Thea @thea.hutchings.gen.nz · 15/08/2026Level 2 has better options for train position detection so that could be the reason, that and no need for physical signals. 100 1
Thea @thea.hutchings.gen.nz · 15/08/2026ETCS is signalling, not control. Platform screen doors need either a lot of driver training for them to stop at a precise point or some form of automatic train operation. That or really fancy doors that can adapt to the stopping position, but those are spendy. 110 1
