She became an ER director to make things better for everyone, but no paid leave, no flexibility, and sexist colleagues drove her out. Not because she couldn’t lead, but because there were no policies to support her as both a doctor and a mom. #The75Million time.com/7296501/mom-...

Becoming a Mom Made it Impossible for Me to Lead an ER
“I was expected to heal others, but my job made it impossible to adequately care for myself and my baby.”

Absolutely! Caregiving is totally devalued in this country, even though it's the backbone of our economy.

We need crucial policies like affordable child care and paid leave. It shouldn’t have to be this hard. Let’s fix the motherhood penalty, and build an economy that doesn’t profit off mothers’ unpaid labor. #The75Million | The75Million.org

This isn’t about “bad choices.” It’s about mothers having no choices. Our country's outdated systems and policies punish mothers for doing the work that holds families, workplaces, and communities together.
100
The 75 Million @the75million.bsky.social · 30/06/2025
When mothers stay in the workforce, many employers assume they’re “less committed” because they need flexibility to pick up a sick child, pump breast milk, or get to a school event. Managers deny them raises and promotions they’ve earned — a penalty fathers rarely face.
000
The 75 Million @the75million.bsky.social · 30/06/2025
Then there’s child care. In most states, child care costs more than a mortgage. Many mothers cut back hours, turn down promotions, or leave jobs because care is too expensive or impossible to find.
200
The 75 Million @the75million.bsky.social · 30/06/2025
Many can’t afford to take all that time unpaid. So they rush back to work too soon, risking their health and their baby’s wellbeing, or they leave the workforce altogether. Either way, they lose income.
000
The 75 Million @the75million.bsky.social · 30/06/2025
Example: A woman gives birth and needs time to heal and bond with her baby. In many countries, that’s covered. In the U.S., millions get no paid leave, just 12 weeks of unpaid job protection, *if* they qualify.

Have you heard of the motherhood penalty? 👇🏽 The NYT asked mothers to share their stories — and so many spoke up about how our systems and policies strip away income, savings, and security when women become mothers. #The75Million www.nytimes.com/2025/06/25/o...

This decision targets the women most at risk: gig workers, freelancers, service workers, and others without employer-based insurance who rely on Medicaid for care.

The consequences are real. 📊 72% of LGBTQ+ employees say DEI rollbacks make them feel less included. 📊 1 in 5 say they would quit.

And at the administration's behest, across the country, state governments and federal agencies are racing to dismantle DEI. They're shuttering offices, scrubbing websites, and banning inclusive programs in a sweeping rollback of civil rights protections.

Dismissed by DEI: Trump’s Purge Made Black Women With Stable Federal Jobs an “Easy Target”
The president’s attack on diversity efforts has derailed the government careers of highly educated civil servants — even though the jobs some lost were not directly involved with any DEI programs.
