Nico 🏳️‍⚧️ @the-x-button.bsky.social · 12/10/2026

oh yeah and heres the idw colors for comparison

100

Nico 🏳️‍⚧️ @the-x-button.bsky.social · 12/10/2026

havent posted colors in a while since i didn't wanna just post the pages of a short story as i complete them when i could just... upload the whole thing. i just didnt expect this to take like 2 weeks

i still have an 11 page epilogue left, but this is gonna be my last page from this issue that im doing this month, i'll do the rest next month for now i want to focus on some halloween short stories, and playing video games

and as a lil bonus heres a panel i colored years ago when i wanted to prove how fucking actually easy it is to tell the turtles apart in any given panel through their body language and general expression of their personality, and i used their 03 colors bc why not

Nico 🏳️‍⚧️ @the-x-button.bsky.social · 03/10/2026

i try to have zero cartoon influence on my colors, but i made aprils apartment resemble her rise apartment about as much as i could

100

Nico 🏳️‍⚧️ @the-x-button.bsky.social · 02/10/2026

i got that type of autism that can easily tell all the turtles apart when theyre literally just walking up stairs

110

Nico 🏳️‍⚧️ @the-x-button.bsky.social · 02/10/2026

its nice to color darkness again, and colored lighting. im back in my element i think im now purple bandana pilled on the mirage turtles

Nico 🏳️‍⚧️ @the-x-button.bsky.social · 01/10/2026

been really thinking about how i handle the time of day in these comics. what color the times of day evoke in me i think mornings should be lime colored day should be different shades of blue evening is just a grapefruit, which isnt a color, i know, but idc and night should be maroon-ish or burgandy

100

Nico 🏳️‍⚧️ @the-x-button.bsky.social · 01/10/2026

this page took like 3 days to finish not because it was all that much more complicated or time consuming, but because im just having a mental breakdown and struggling with suicidal thoughts and struggling to find motivation to do literally anything

100

Nico 🏳️‍⚧️ @the-x-button.bsky.social · 26/09/2026

admittedly the gradient is prolly a bit much for this page but like there was so much empty space i didnt know what else to do

100

Nico 🏳️‍⚧️ @the-x-button.bsky.social · 26/09/2026

fascinated by these '85 tmnt buttons by eastman and laird, since to my knowledge this is pretty much one of the first times they colored the turtles ive never seen the turtles with dark plastrons before, its kinda neat, almost makes it look like theyre wearing a vest or something

000

Nico 🏳️‍⚧️ @the-x-button.bsky.social · 25/09/2026

another page down my brain is tv static but i like filling blank backgrounds with sunset gradients

100

Nico 🏳️‍⚧️ @the-x-button.bsky.social · 24/09/2026

cerebus crossover is on thin fucking ice and i probably wont do the rest of mirage v4/journeys bc the opening of issue 3 made me want to tear my eyes out and rip off my hands anything that has an easily accessable non-idw colored version is also pretty unlikely to get colored by me

000

Nico 🏳️‍⚧️ @the-x-button.bsky.social · 24/09/2026

i also found issue 9 kinda boring even if i like the novelty of a story about the turtles in their childhood mirage volume 2 is pretty much only in color (though idw still recolored it for some reason with the worst colors ive seen in my life) so coloring it would be pointless FUCK the image books

100

Nico 🏳️‍⚧️ @the-x-button.bsky.social · 24/09/2026

ngl theres also a handful of "essential" issues i kinda don't wanna color. primarily bc i don't vibe with peter laird's art unless he's paired with someone. fugitoid, ill probably only do the last 2 pages of and include it at the start of issue 5 i also kinda hate issue 15 ngl

100

Nico 🏳️‍⚧️ @the-x-button.bsky.social · 24/09/2026

i also won't be coloring issue 33 bc thats just... already in color it's also very unlikely i'll color in the souls winter saga in issues 31, 35 and 36 bc its non-canon and i don't think my coloring style wouldn't really do it justice every other guest issue is basically just "if i feel like it"

100

Nico 🏳️‍⚧️ @the-x-button.bsky.social · 24/09/2026

but, and i cannot stress this enough, i won't ever be fucking touching issues 16, 22, 23, 34, 38, 39, 40 because those issues outright fucking repulse me

100

Nico 🏳️‍⚧️ @the-x-button.bsky.social · 23/09/2026

yes i got lazy with this page but man it was still MISERABLE to color and took forever, so i have no regret also i made the paint pink as a lil sneaky nod to a tmnt short story i plan on coloring soon-ish. "not one word"

100

Nico 🏳️‍⚧️ @the-x-button.bsky.social · 22/09/2026

i know the next page is gonna fucking suck to color and i need to fucking mentally prepare with a casey jones fix i love my boy so much i actually bothered to color in the shading... on the mask at least

100

Nico 🏳️‍⚧️ @the-x-button.bsky.social · 21/09/2026

another page, next ones gonna be miserable

100

Nico 🏳️‍⚧️ @the-x-button.bsky.social · 20/09/2026

this was such an annoying page to color

101

Nico 🏳️‍⚧️ @the-x-button.bsky.social · 19/09/2026

looking at new york in autumn for references and man... i get gta4 now. i get it now.

what the fuck do you mean renet from tmnt is only the way she is, because she just canonically got hit by a bimbo-beam

110

Nico 🏳️‍⚧️ @the-x-button.bsky.social · 15/09/2026

fucking golden age comics can catch me so offguard man holy shit

110

Nico 🏳️‍⚧️ @the-x-button.bsky.social · 14/09/2026

aint no way i was legitimately coloring that car crash, im gettin minimal on that shit

100

Nico 🏳️‍⚧️ @the-x-button.bsky.social · 12/09/2026

god i just realized i was so used to the dark borders that ive just been doing them out of habbit this issue even though its supposed to be daytime/evening and ive been trying to use borders to help set the scenes lighting page 12 is unchanged for vibe reasons (and bc i forgot to save the xcf)

100

Nico 🏳️‍⚧️ @the-x-button.bsky.social · 12/09/2026

jesus this page is ugly on the official version

100

Nico 🏳️‍⚧️ @the-x-button.bsky.social · 12/09/2026

very proud of this page, just for the part with mikey breathing on the window while he pushes his nose up against it like a dog

101

Nico 🏳️‍⚧️ @the-x-button.bsky.social · 11/09/2026

how did insomniac get one-upped by 20 year old movie tie-in games twice in a row

130

Nico 🏳️‍⚧️ @the-x-button.bsky.social · 10/09/2026

its pretty weird coloring this all grey when thats like a huge thing i criticize most colors of doing, but man i want a general fall 70s-80s new york kinda vibe so i gotta make this hypocritical sacrifice also goddamn 80s cop cars were a bright blue

100

Nico 🏳️‍⚧️ @the-x-button.bsky.social · 10/09/2026

changed april a tad since i noticed, on closeups, her clothes are layered. i kinda considered going for a maroon sweater at first anyway and i think the combo goes really well

100

Nico 🏳️‍⚧️ @the-x-button.bsky.social · 09/09/2026

forgot to post this last night based aprils van's colors off of her 1990 van since its actually just the same van gave april a yellow sweater, not bc of the cartoon but bc it kinda fit the 70s kinda vibe... but i dont know about the exact shade, i might make it a lil darker or something

101

Nico 🏳️‍⚧️ @the-x-button.bsky.social · 09/09/2026

i think an unspoken consequence of current ai is that its kinda retroactively poisoned a lot of ai characters that were often treated as if they were people. doesnt ruin these stories or anything but like, and ofc they usually arent the same as llms, but like imagine gohan going ssj2 over chatgpt

Nico 🏳️‍⚧️ @the-x-button.bsky.social · 08/09/2026

3 pages in a day, maybe ill get the issue done this month

100

Nico 🏳️‍⚧️ @the-x-button.bsky.social · 07/09/2026

wasnt gonna do 2 pages today but i figured i was slacking a little much. i wanna get this issue done by like early october, so a page a day this month should be my goal
