I am having a Goldfield & Banks Summer. Occasionally a Wulong Cha, White Musk, or Blue Talisman spritz in the mix, but I’ve really just been rotating between Bohemian Lime, Ingenious Ginger, Sunset Hour, Pacific Rock Flower, and Wood Infusion. They know their summertime scents! #perfumesky

59 potatoes went in the ground today. Now I just wait until it’s time to hill them. #gardening #zone6b #potatoes
This morning I cut the potatoes into chunks so each eye had a substantial bit of starch to grow from. The potatoes laid out in the bed, which is about 16x3 feet. The potato bed after covering with freshly sifted soil & compost, and protected from wild digging friends with chicken wire fence that is just shy of being long enough for the space, so I had to get creative on the end there. Thinned radishes, beets, & spinach I sowed two weeks ago, planted more cold-hardy greens (chard, kale, cabbage, lettuce, celery, endive, chijimisai), and took pest-protector rings off of the brassicas (worried they’d inhibit roots). Some frost damage, but great progress overall! #gardening #zone6b

Took another round of cold hardy greens & herbs out to harden off, so took advantage of basement shelf space to up-pot too many peppers, a reasonable number of tomatoes & eggplants, and a nice bunch of sweet potato slips. Bonus photo of my cat/shadow/gardening buddy, Josh. #gardening #zone6b
17 bell peppers in 3” spruce fiber pots on a shelf with a grow light above. 8 tomatoes and 3 eggplants in spruce fiber pots with a grow light above. The tomatoes have been topped to encourage two main stems to develop (ultimate goal is more fruit). Sweet potato slip shelf with heat mats. The sweet potatoes are under a dome and when the slips there grow large enough I plant them in spruce fiber pots. These are destined for planters in a sunny spot. Josh the cat investigating some seed starting medium. He yells at me if I don’t give him something to work on while I am working.

Late February I bought sweet potatoes at the grocer. I stuck them in starting mix on a heat mat and covered them, first with plastic wrap and then with a dome lid, to keep things tropical. Today I up-potted the tallest slips after cutting with my sharpest pruners. #gardening #zone6b #sweetpotato
Sweet potatoes early March, just after going in moist seed starting mix.Slips mostly concentrated on one end of one sweet potato, and in the last few days they had a growth spurt; some were too tall for the dome. I cut as close to the sweet potato as possible with my sharpest pruners and at an angle. The bottom of each is planted into the seed starting mix in its own spruce fiber pot, and will grow roots from there. Back on the heat mat, and you can also see the container/dome in the background which still has several slips growing.
